ARNEC has also received approval of a government backed programme called the Technology Promotion Programme. The aim of this is to run workshops to discuss new machinery, for example a workshop on buffing. This programme, which expires in December, is 65% sponsored by the government with the rest being taken up by both monetary and time contributions donated by the association.
In addition to this, all ARNEC members have been improving standards relating to Health and Safety, and the Association is working actively with the Health Ministry on issues such as noise and stress etc.

And finally, we have been informed about ARNEC’s plan to host a retreading congress and show in Santiago later this year. Could you please explain a little more about this?

Yes. ARNEC is looking to organise the first Congreso de Neumatico y del Recauchaje de Chile to take place November 28-29 in Casa Piedra in
Vitacura, Santiago. The event is targeted at fleets, tyre manufacturers, retreaders, universities, government bodies etc. and will be backed up with a small exhibition (Salon de Recauchaje) of around 12 exhibitors. We will be looking to invite retreaders and retreaders’ associations from all over South America in addition to experts from further afield including a panel of EPR experts from Europe.
The convention will cover key topics such as the current situation with regards to the EPR law, a the retread scenario in South America and will include a panel of fleet customers. Also covered, will be current developments in the tyre recycling industry, which is a major topic as between 5 and 8 tyre recycling projects are expected to come to fruition in Chile over the course of the next 2-3 years.
The event will at least in part be sponsored by government bodies, in particular the Agencia para Sustentabilidad y Cambio Climatico (Agency for Sustainability and Climate Change) and the Ministerio del Medio Ambiente (Environment Ministry) amongst others.
The software is designed for complete retread production management and is suitable for mould cure, pre-cure or Ringtread operations, providing complete plant activity reporting from the moment a tyre enters the plant until it is delivered to the customer. The package covers all the key work stations within the retread plant tracking the tyre through the process as well as billing, material tracking and ordering functions. Of key importance is the ease of use by staff who may feel intimidated by having to use computerised systems.
“We knew what we didn’t like about other programmes. Our goal was to make the best, simple to use software to serve the independent retreaders,” commented TreadWare CEO Clayton Van Kleeck.
Meanwhile, a new dedicated Systems and IT Engineering department was launched in October 2016, and the company has since developed a stand-
alone turnkey server/workstation technology platform, which has already been deployed and which the company claims has met with excellent reviews. “This new approach allows us to completely package and build the system for our clients and ship it 100 per cent ready to work on delivery,” said Van Kleeck.
The company’s System AX100 hardware package comes complete with all the parts required to run and operate TreadWare, and it ships with a one year parts/labour warranty. The system is supplied with a remote desktop service and support software, so that if any problems arise, the engineering team can rectify them with minimal delay.
In addition to the above, TreadWare has installed a 24/7 remote training lab, which effectively allows a client to work on their system before it actually leaves TreadWare’s facility.

Hawkinson Launches Micro NDT
Hawkinson used the opportunity offered by the North American Tire & Retread Show to launch a portable version of their range of NDT tyre testing equipment.
The Micro-NDT is design to offer an effective tyre testing solution for the lower volume retread or repair shop, which is inspecting less than 50 tyres per day. Featuring Hawkinson’s automatic digital technology, the machine is designed to be used in conjunction with the retreader’s existing spreader.
According to Hawkinson’s Brian Brasch, the Micro-NDT, which retails at USD 17,500, forms part of Hawkinson’s increasingly flexible range of options for retreaders. There are now six different options to suit different budgets and requirements
range from the manual D-250 to the state-of-the-art automatic NDT-III Digital Pro.
One of several tread rubber manufacturers who continued to support the New Orleans show with a significant presence was Mexican tread rubber manufacturer, Hules Banda, whose Bandamatic brand has now become well established among independent retreaders across the USA. Although the company admitted that
attendance at the show was relatively low, Managing Director Heriberto Romero was adamant that the company had gained a number of valuable new leads at the show.
The company was exhibiting its full range of pre-cured treads at the show including a new pattern FRP, a new off- road drive axle application.

Shamrock Adds Easy Stacker
The latest new product on display on Shamrock Marketing’s stand in New Orleans was the Easy Stacker tyre stacking tool from Danish company Just Easy Tools.
The Easy Stacker removes much of the hazardous work from the process of stacking or moving heavy tyres.
Lake Katrine, NY based software house TreadWare has made significant investments in a dedicated Systems and IT Engineering Department as it prepares to expand its coverage to independent retreads outside the US. Speaking to the company at the North American Tire & Retread Expo in New Orleans, it was revealed that the
company is targeting its TreadWare retread plant management software package at independent retreaders anywhere in the world. According to Director Karen Van Kleeck, TreadWare has already been developed in Spanish for the Latin American market, but the company has the ability to provide in other languages too.
