Glisten to Focus on Equipment Business
Coimbatore based Glisten Retread Suppliers is focussing on its retreading equipment and has established committed associations with companies like JK and Ceat, in the Indian rubber industry. “These major OEMs are recommending their vendor base to source equipment from us,” said Sushil Sarcar of Glisten Retread Suppliers. The equipment maker has made

Glisten is also quite active in supplying retreading equipment in the international market. “We have sold three plants in the Middle East, one in Sri Lanka and two more are in the pipeline in the Middle East,” Sarcar confirmed.

considerable equipment sales in the Southern Indian states ever since it entered the Indian market in 2009. “We have sold six units in Tamil Nadu, two Karnataka, two in Andhra Pradesh and one in Gujarat with two more to start shortly,” stated Sarcar at Tyre Expo at Chennai. With Ceat foraying into retreading, Glisten has another project in the pipeline. Glisten also has a pilot retreading plant for testing equipment. ‘Our
market is getting bigger; with increasing radialisation promising to help the retreading industry play a major role in the transition of the market. “Retreading could play a more professional role in the tyre business in the future,” he said. Sarcar also called for the implementation of ECE 108/109 in India, as in Europe, to force Indian retreaders to follow key rules and regulations.

Malaysia based Acten Marketing SDN BHD has recently signed a long term contract with a leading Japanese tyre association, Commercial Tyre Collection Association (CTCA) to retread tyres for them. “As per the agreement, we import casings from CTCA, inspect and retread at our Sembilan based retreading plant and export back to CTCA, “ informed Yap Kong Hui, Marketing Director, Acten Marketing during Tyre Expo, Chennai. This has been done as through a provision of duty exemption provided for the import and re-export of the same quantity of tyres by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia. We have already retreaded 1000 tyres or two containers for CTCA,” Yap confirmed. The long term arrangement reached between Acten and
CTCA started in March 2011.
Acten also participated at the Tyre Expo Chennai to enter into the potential- packed Indian market. The Malaysian company has already supplied equipment, sending machines to the Hyderabad-based Indian tread maker Vamshi Rubber. “We know there is lot of potential in the Indian market and we are very interested in supplying complete compounding plants and retreading plants,” Yap said. Though the company believes it will take some time to enter the Indian market as there is a high import duty there and unless that comes down the market may not pick up very quickly. “But once the tariff drops, we will be eager to enter the Indian market in big way,” Yap stated.
CIMA Looking for Indian Opportunities
Italian company CIMA Impianti is eyeing up the growing OTR market in India. “The OTR market in India has big potential and we think it is a good move to be here in this emerging market,” said Massimo Capecchi, President of CIMA Impianti. CIMA manufactures all kinds of curing presses for hot cure, moulds, extruder builders, buffing and re-
grooving machines for big OTR tyres.
