certified and audited by Michelin, has been installed with state-of- the-art Michelin technology, machinery and raw materials, all of which, according to General Manager Luis Váquiro, has been
done "in order to reduce the operating costs of the transport sector in the western Colombian area and with the satisfaction of being certified and audited by Michelin. We are now providing a maximum duration retreading with more technology and Michelin products that we want to apply in the long term in all our plants. We believe that the next one will be Medellín.” According to Váquiro the new Yumbo facility will be managed and operated by 100% Colombian personnel with a total of 45 families directly benefitting from the investment.
Renoboy says it usually retreads between 5,000 and 7,000 tyres per month across its five plants and employs around 150 people across those facilities. However, figures released by DIAN claim that in 2020 1.35 million tyres were imported in Colombia, of which 29% were retreaded. Of these, Renoboy contributed 13%, a total of around 50,000 retreads. “In 2020 we were 22% below our 2019 levels, but this year we are thinking positively, and we hope to return to these same levels. We want to make between 70,000 and 80,000 tyres a year again,” said Váquiro.
