tyres defined as being of historical interest, providing they are not being used for commercial purposes.
It is lawful, but not recommended, to use tyres aged more than 10-years on other axles.
Penalties for contravening the new legislation include fixed penalty
notices, fines, driving licence penalty points and disqualification from driving.
The maximum fine is Level 5, a potentially unlimited amount in England and Wales, but capped at £5,000 in Scotland.
The Retreading Systems division of Marangoni has announced that it will upwardly adjust the sales price for rubber materials used to retread tyres in all countries of the European Area on March 1st, 2021. The magnitude of the increase will be at a level of 0,20 €/kg.
According to Marangoni, this increase reflects that of the raw materials used by this sector, whose rapid evolution has been caused by increased demand at a global level as well as a reduction in available quantities.

The price increase of raw materials has already forced various manufacturers of new tyres and/or materials for retreading to declare price increases or programme them for the coming weeks. Marangoni says it believes that these increases will not have a negative effect on the competitiveness of the retreading industry. On the contrary, since retreads use less raw materials compared to new tyres, the company believes will benefit from this trend.
operational safety, and the SC 885 Precured Tread prioritises efficiency for handling loads at the best cost/benefit, says the company. The new precured tread allows for fast movement of loads, with high levels of safety and excellent operational ergonomics. The tread is produced with an extra-premium compound aimed at running with less heat for the better preservation of the casing. Available in 6 widths, and in tread depths of 18 and 20 mm, the company’s line caters for the main tyre sizes used in the segment. Silvercap Treads are supplied in the right tyre size and are ready for application, avoiding waste.
Vipal Research Use of Rice Husk in Rubber Production
Vipal has announced
that it is collaborating
in a joint research
project studying the
possibility of using rice

industry. Partners in
the project are the
University of Caxias do Sul, in Brazil, and Lodz Poland University of Technology.
According to Suélen Moresco, a Material and Chemistry Engineer from Vipal's Research team, research is still at the stage of internal laboratory validation but is likely to go on to tests at the factory. The patent application for
the process has already been filed by Vipal and the participating universities. According to Moresco, in addition to providing an appropriate destination for the waste, one of the advantages of using rice husk ash, is to diversify the raw materials within the rubber chain.

Tyre Age Restrictions Become Law in the UK
VM Rubber (VMR) has announced that it has been appointed the new official distributor for the Monaflex Tyre Repair System for the Italian market. The collaboration between Monaflex, a UK company based in Guernsey, and VMR, located in Rovereto, was officialised at the end of January.
“The next step will be the creation of a Monaflex brochure in the Italian language,” said VMR Managing Director Pablo Versini. “This will surely help many Italian companies to see the benefits of using the class- leading Monaflex system and to understand the opportunities it can offer.”
According to Versini, VMR has already witnessed a great deal of interest in the Monaflex Tyre
Repair System, which can be used on every tyre size on the market today. “As a result we believe there is the need for companies to be shown the benefits it can generate in terms of efficiency and work quality,” he added.
New tyre age restrictions have become law in the United Kingdom with effect from 1 February 2021. The new legislation specifies that it is now illegal for the front (steering) axle or axles of goods vehicles with a gross mass more than 3.5 tonnes, buses, coaches, minibuses and also the rear axle, or axles, unless equipped with twin wheels, to use tyres aged more than 10-years.
To prove the age of a tyre it is further required that the date of
manufacture is printed on the tyre and remains legible on all tyres. Under the legislation, retreaded tyres are subject to the same requirement as first-life tyres. The date of retreading, instead of the date of first manufacture, will be used to determine the tyre age. The only exemptions are vehicles: currently excluded from tyre roadworthiness regulations (as stated in regulation 27(4)(a) of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 and
