Nexrubbertec Secures Funding for Expansion – Targets Retread Sector
Rubber recycling technology company NexrubbertecSdnBhd (NexRubber) has announced that it has secured funding to expand production of rubber compounds using its rubber devulcanisation process with the construction of a new plant. According to Jamil B Khamis, one of the Directors of the Subang Jaya based company, the funding will be used to expand compound production at a new factory
expected to be completed by June 2012. At the same time the company is investing in new mixing equipment aimed at allowing compounds to be mixed in larger batches (10 times the current 15 kg batches) and expanding its R&D capacity by working with a local university, Tunku Abdul Razak Research Center United Kingdom (TARRC) and Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia (RRI) in order to satisfy itself of the feasibility of larger batch production.
NexRubber was set up in 2006 and uses a proprietary process which enables scrap rubber to be recycled so it can be reused in new products with its zero waste, clean and green process. The“NexRubber”compounds generated by this technology can be used 100 per cent in low end products and as much as 40% in higher end products such as retread
compound.
Even
though
there
are several rubber recycling technologies in the market currently, NexRubber reported that their proprietary green compound process is of high quality, has lower manufacturing costs and is environmental friendly. As such, the NexRubber green compound can be used for the production of a wide range of applications including tyres, tyre flaps, mats, sports equipment, and shoe soles etc.
According to Jamil B Khamis, NexRubber has identified the retread market as a key target area. The company’s NexRubber green
compound, which is made from grade A truck tyre buffings, has been used by Bandag in the Philippines and local retread manufacturer for more than a year. The company is now looking to move onto the next level and has been busy sourcing raw material. “We have developed a source for around 200 tonnes per annum from Malaysia and we believe we can source a further 300- 400 from Indonesia”, says Jamil. NexRubber is now on the lookout for joint venture partners to help them develop the market for their compounds overseas. “We believe the rubber price won’t go down so there are considerable opportunities in this sector as we are not only able to provide cost saving to the manufacturers but also recycle their factory
waste into reusable material and creating a greener environment”, says Jamil. “The growth potential is huge.
Our aim now is getting the right machines, process and right partners in place”.
Rubber Prices Expected to Firm Up
Malaysian rubber prices are expected to remain firm in the near future.
Dealers said the tight supply situation, Thailand's price-support plan and firm oil prices were expected to lend support to the commodity.
Thailand, the world's biggest rubber producer, has approved a 15 billion baht plan to prop up the price of locally-grown natural rubber to 120 baht per kg (100 bath = RM9.7). On a weekly basis, the Malaysian
Rubber Board's official physical price for tyre-grade SMR 20 gained 15.5 sen to 1,139.5 sen per kg from 1,124.0 sen per kg perviously while latex in bulk increased by 39.0 sen to 747.0 sen per kg from 708.0 sen per kg.
The unofficial closing price for tyre- grade SMR 20 eased 1.0 sen to 1,131.5 sen per kg from 1,132.5 sen per kg last.
Latex in bulk rose 33.0 sen to 747.5 sen per kg from 714.5 sen per kg.
