Indian tyre and rubber manufacturer, Tolins, based in Kerala in the south of India, is stepping out into the world market in an ambitious plan to grow its market share both at home and internationally. The move includes plans to double tyre production to 2,000 units per day and increase
retread materials production from 600 to 1200 tonnes per month.
“If everything goes well, the expansion projects will be on stream by the first half of next year,” says Dr K V Tolin, Managing Director of the Tolins Group .
Organic growth is the route to be followed by this ambitious Indian company. The key focus will remain with light truck tyres and its retreading materials offer, but the company now hopes to enter the Indian truck radial market with imported Tolins branded tyres. Tolins is a well known name in India and has built a reputation throughout, the Middle East, East Africa, Jordan, Israel, Kenya, Syria, Egypt, Australia and markets less dominated by global brands. South America is one market on the target list and an office will be opened there in 2012.
Tolins takes strength from the fact that it was one of the pioneering Indian manufacturers to sell retread materials into the North American market and believes that this experience will help the company move into new markets that will help it attain its ambitious targets.
With a focus on quality, durability, technology, value and international standards are all key guides at Tolin’s manufacturing plants located in India and the Middle East. The Group’s corporate headquarters and main production plants are situated over an area of 50 acres at Kalady in Kerala.

Dr Tolins explained, “At least 30 per cent of our tyres and retreads are exported.” The company is planning to use the city of Chennai as the centre of its Indian distribution network where the company has a solid client base built around several state operated units.
Since its establishment in 1982 by the late KP Varkey, the company has developed from its rice growing and processing roots to a market leading rubber processor and materials producer.

All Midas materials are thoroughly quality tested to ensure consistency. Every 60 Kg of mixed compound is tested for correct dispersion and to ensure it meets the company’s high expectations, before further processing takes place. All raw materials are tested before being using in production. Midas anticipates that the maintenance of high standards will ensure customer satisfaction at every step.
Midas factories and its head office are located around Kottayam town in Kerala, which is known as the Natural Rubber capital of India.
