Apollo Tyres and Ashok Leyland Collaborate on Driver Health Initiatives

The two companies will be working together to establish more such healthcare centres in
large transshipment hubs across India.
The new facility has been created with a spacious floor space of 2500 sq ft and is equipped with adequate diagnostic equipment, which is exclusive for the health education of the Driving Community within the Driver Training premises. A nominal registration fees of INR 20/- will enable the driver to avail these services at any of the 31 Apollo Tyres Healthcare Centres across India.

Located about 50 km outside of New Delhi, Alfa Cold Retreads, a prominent retreader in the city of Ghaziabad, is currently operating at third of what it produced until about three years ago.
On what caused the reduction in sales, V P Sharma of Alfa Cold Retreads explained, “There are multiple reasons like the phasing out of 10 years old trucks by the government, which used to be the mainstay of the business. Besides, the general economic downturn has caused a number of smaller fleets to go out of business, while others have moved out and relocated to far-off places, wherever
they find business.”
According to him, “Small fleets of about 20 trucks were not able to withstand the slowdown as stranded vehicles increase overheads, leading them to shut operations.” Moreover, bigger fleets survive but their financial woes are increasing with outstanding debts piling-up due to prolonged credit exposure extended from 90 days 180 days.
