Cheah added, “Our primary objective at this event was to highlight our partner division, Olympic Retreads, which was formed in 1977 and has over forty successful years in the tyre retread operations sector. Olympic Retreads is constantly looking to further enhance its manufacturing process in order to provide high
quality retreaded tyres in keeping with customers demanding expectations.”
Cheah believes the all-new Tire Cologne show has taken a significant step forward for international tyre retreading by staging the sectors own special hall at the event. He concluded “It is a definite move in the right direction and hopefully at future shows the size of companies offering retreading services will grow.”
Rekor Kaucuk Anticipates an Upturn in the Market
In 2017 Rekor Kaucuk finished transition to its new plant in Turkey, which has three times greater production capacities compared to the old production facility. That expansion seemed to be very timely, since the long- awaited recovery in the retreading market across the region may be already on the way, according to Gunduz Akin, sales manager with Rekor Kaucuk.
“Of course, over the past 3 to 4 years we were facing challenges associated with cheap Chinese tyres in the European market. Just like the other producers in the market, we have also been negatively affected, but with this new regulation which is under discussions right now, we believe that the retreading industry can return the lost market,” Akin said.
