 A Meeting Point Amidst New Products from Elgi Rubber
Indian retread equipment, tools and accessories manufacturer Elgi Rubber were once again attending Tyrexpo Africa in line with their established policy of presenting at most tyre related shows around the world.
Retreading Business chatted with Sudarsan Varadaraj, Elgi’s Chairman and Managing Director, who pointed out that the main reason for exhibiting at the event was to support the company’s
services with potentially new customers.”
Visitors to the Elgi stand were able to inspect the company’s five main product brands – Jet-Tyre Retread and Repair Systems - Pincott Rasp Blades, Hubs and Spacers – Carbrasive Brazed Carbide Tools – Midwest Rubber Gums, Adhesives and Sealants and Ecorr Reclaimed Rubber. market Varadaraj stated that for Elgi current sales performance is ver y promising and there are definite signs of further improvement in the industr y for the future, although Chinese imports are always going to be a problem.
He added, “Globally – retreading is here to stay as there is a certain design factor built into a tyre that cannot be compromised whilst the quality of retreaded tyres will always gain a significant amount of backing and it is just a
question of continuing to build on this success.”
Malaysian based industrial rubber compounding manufacturer Sun Rubber Industry were returning to the Tyrexpo Africa for the second time, but under new management.
Steven Gan, General Manager, told Retreading Business that the main reason for returning to the event after a gap of several years was to attract new customers/distribution partners for the company’s rubber compounding services.
Gan explained, “We believe that South Africa is an exciting new emerging market for the retreading and rubber compounding industries and naturally we intend to capitalise on this development and establish a growing business profile in the country and across Southern Africa. Our rubber compounding products are already sold on a worldwide basis to over thirty countries in Asia Pacific including Australia, the Middle East and

At present the company exports its retreaded tyres all over the world including North America,
Canada, South and Central America, The Caribbean, The Middle East plus some countries in Africa and Asia and as well as Europe.
Salvador says, “Being at the Tyrexpo Africa show enables us to further enhance our business profile in Southern Africa and also educate the country on the obvious benefits of fitting retreaded tyres.

Also exhibiting for the first time at Tyrexpo Africa were Spanish based retreaders Insa Turbo, who were looking to capitalise on their existing contacts in South Africa and Botswana and meet additional potential partners for Southern Africa.
Having identified Tyrexpo Africa as the most important event for
the retreading market, not just in South Africa but all surrounding countries, Insa Turbo were looking to showcase their 4x4 retread tyre range, which is already proving increasingly popular in Africa.
