When asked about other challenges in the business, he said, “Competition and price are the other major issues faced by the retreading industry.”
On when the scenario is expected to improve, he said, “Things will
settle down in a year. Price correction is expected with the introduction of GST in India. We have no issues with procuring rubber and machinery for the proposed plant. We will likely review the scenario if the labour situation improves. In that case, the second plant will go on line,” Ravichandran explained. The company’s plans were to start a 300- 400 tyre plant in the Avadi- Ambattur belt in Chennai. Around 10,000 tyres are retreaded each month in Chennai.
The Excel plant based at Sholavaram (Chennai) was set up in 2002 and is equipped with two 5 and 3 tyre chambers sourced from
Rajmahaal . The company sources 6 tonnes of tread rubber each month from Hyderabad based Vamshi.
