    NEWS EXTRA
The Tire Gains Support from the Retread Sector
the world over the coming months, Koelnmesse will be hoping that the benefits of holding a dedicated tyre industry exhibition in the traditional May/June slot will become clear. The benefits to parts and equipment suppliers in supporting the new show during Automechanika are clear, as exhibitors from this sector will no doubt be visiting the long- established Frankfurt exhibition anyway. However, the fact that The Tire has the support of the German Association BRV, which represents tyre dealers and retreaders, has managed to secure support for Cologne from much of the tyre industry.
The tyre retreading and recycling sectors will no doubt be attracted by the dedicated hall for that sector (Hall 9). At the time of writing, companies from the retreading sector who had already definitively committed to a stand at The Tire included Kraiburg, Carl Zeiss, SDS Systemtechnik, Rekor Kaucuk, CIMA, Salvadori, Elgi, Matteuzzi, MIG (MAE), Dobermann, Akar Makina, Eversafe, B&J Rocket and Kargro. A number of other
key suppliers from the sector also had space on hold and some of these have indicated to us they will also attend.
Readers of Retreading Business will also be aware that this magazine and our sister magazine for the tyre recycling sector, Tyre and Rubber Recycling, are working closely with the organisers to create a special area dedicated to the circle of responsibility, addressing matters concerning various aspects of recycling. This will include a number of specially organised talks offering information on technical, commercial and legal matters across a wide and balanced array of topics of interest to the sector. This area will be completed by an extensive display showing the Chain of Recycling displaying all phases of material utilisation – from the collection and treatment of scrap tyres to the end product.
Hall 9 is now filling up quickly, so potential exhibitors are advised to contact Koelnmesse’s Sales Manager Sandra Horst as soon as possible to secure their space.
many years. We are committed to rewarding this with increased support, product development and diversity, training initiatives and of course competitive pricing but what really excites and motivates us is the future of our industry. Repair remains the core of our business but Tech’s future is to be at the heart of every tyre’s life cycle; from maintenance and repair to repurposing and recycling.
The Tire, the exhibition which takes place May 29-June 1, 2018 in Cologne, Germany is gaining traction amongst the retreading industry, with a number of key tread rubber and equipment manufacturers having now committed to the exhibition. There is little doubt that there has been some confusion within the market over the past year
with Koelnmesse, the organisers of The Tire, promoting itself openly as the successor show to Essen, whilst Messe Essen have kept their Reifen brand alive by placing it alongside Messe Frankfurt’s Automechanika show. However, following a recent appearance at Tyrexpo Asia in Singapore, and planned presence at other tyre shows throughout
Tech Invests in Growth and in People
It has been a busy and exciting start to 2017 for Tech International. The company acquired Salvadori, the Northern Italy based retread tools and equipment manufacturer, late in 2016. This move brings a unique one-stop offering to the repair and particularly the retread industry. Salvadori has built significant market share internationally for its range of tools and accessories whilst Tech has long-standing global relationships with many of the largest retread operators including Bandag and Goodyear. The Tech-Salvadori offering is clearly about much more than product range: Tech has a manufacturing, product testing, and distribution base in Northern Ireland, a distribution and training centre in Belgium and now, with the addition of Salvadori’s resources, a production, distribution and training hub in Italy, bringing Tech ever closer to its end users and their specific needs.
Major acquisitions aside Tech is also investing internally. Iain Walker, Tech’s EMEA VP of Sales & Marketing, himself a relatively recent addition to the team notes; “We are excited to welcome another two new sales and marketing team members to our EMEA base in the coming
weeks. This is in addition to the strengthening of our Customer Service team and the addition of a Key Accounts manager at the end of 2016. Our investment in people underlines Tech’s ongoing commitment to distributors and to our end users. Our first priority is to be out in each marketplace with our sales partners and our customers, to listen and to learn from them but also to help them gain the maximum benefit from our unique tyre repair products and to deliver on the Tech promise – Teach Each Customer How. We make an incredible product here in our UK facility; the amount of care within the manufacturing process and the hands-on inspection of each unit is fundamental to our reputation for quality and the unrivalled durability of our repairs. We believe that this passion and attention to detail adds real value for every end user.”
With a global footprint of 5 international bases, spanning all continents, Tech now has significant activity and initiatives on many fronts: the unique Tech TPMS programme has expanded; Tech continues to cement their existing international relationships with leading tyre manufacturers and
retread/repair operations including Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestone and Continental; ongoing research and development of new products and processes; proactive engagement with new market sectors including tyre destruction and recycling from passenger vehicles through to large OTR tyres; development of a division to focus on industrial and conveyor belt repairs within the quarry and mining industries.
Speaking in anticipation of the upcoming Dubai Automechanika and Bologna

events Tech’s EMEA Managing Director Gary Crawford commented “Tech is widely acknowledged as the inventor of modern tyre repairs; our products have repaired over 1bn tyres in more than 100 countries over the last 78 years.
