Quanzhou Goldhawk: Positive Outlook for Retreading Industry as it looks to Expand into Overseas Markets
Quanzhou Gold Hawk Machine Co.,Ltd was originally set up in 2004, and is a specialist manufacturer of precure tread presses, tread
buffing machines
and hydraulic
tyre curing press
etc. According to
Goldhawk’s Wu
Jin Sheng,
around 80 per cent of
China’s tread manufacturers have bought the company’s precure tread press. The company also makes presses for new tyres, motorcycle tyres and solid tyres, selling mainly to local customers and Indian manufacturers such as TVS and Metro Tyre, however, these are not suitable for the retread market.
Goldhawk has been very active in export markets recently, and according to Wu, the company is targeting growth in Southeast Asia, Europe, South America, North America and South Africa. The company has attended Thailand Global Rubber, Latex & Tire Expo 2016; North America Tyre and Retread Expo in the USA and the RubberTech Europe & Reifen Show in Germany. Goldhawk now plans to attend the India Rubber Expo at Chennai in 2017.
Key customers from the retread sector include Midas, Eversafe,
Goodway, and Leadertread. “Our presses enjoy good popularity from the customers, and have been accepted well by
the
contract was the supply of a pre-cured tread press to Midas in India in 2015, and now the company is talking about new contracts with customers from South Africa. Goldhawk started production of its precured tread press in 2005, and since then the company has
sold 90 units, including 4 metre, 5.5metre, 8 metre and 11 metre versions. Says Wu: “The design of the frame and the up & down beam, created through finite element analysis and verified by

prefilled valve to fill the oil, which is of low energy consumption. The loading and unloading speed is fast, which can save labour costs and improve production efficiency. The company’s press adopts a rotating deflated structure for pumping, which can make each layer of rubber fully deflated, hence the tread liner will have an even density.
The company’s latest technological developments include a study on carbon fibre curing presses and the development of a large platen curing press.
On the subject of the current state of the global retreading market, Wu showed himself to be quite optimistic.
“The retreading market around the world has been growing slowly in recent years, due to the low price of rubber raw materials, high labour costs as well as excess capacity of new tyres. With the adjustment of the market itself and people’s understanding of the importance of material regeneration, there will still be space for the retreading market to develop in the future.”
“Nowadays many countries in the
world are adopting anti-dumping laws on Chinese new tyres,” he
added especially in the
USA.” This is blocking the exportation of
Chinese tyres, which together with uneven quality in Chinese new tyres and rising labour costs, has also affected the Chinese retreading market just as it has elsewhere in the world. However, it is expected that after two or three years, as the government is paying a lot of attention to environmental protection and the improvement of tyre quality being considered vital, the retreading industr y will begin to improve its position.”
market,” said Wu. In terms of new contracts, Wu pointed out that the most recently completed
production, are
both reliable and durable.
