LATEST NEWS- SOUTH AMERICA ALARNEU AIMS TO BE THE RENEWED VOICE OF THE LATIN AMERICAN RETREADING INDUSTRY ALARNEU members during a meeting in 2018 ALARNEU, the Latin American Associ- ation for the Tyre Retreading Industry, has announced that it has decided to renew its forces with the aim of achiev- ing the original goals of the Association when it was established in Sao Paulo in 2014. The first General Assembly of ALARNEU, held at the end of April 2014 in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, was attended by the associations of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Representatives of Man- ufacturers of Raw Materials for Tyre Retreading and Manufacturers of Ma- chines and Equipment for Tyre Retread- ing also participated in the Assembly. From 2014 to date, including the pandemic, the work carried out by ALARNEU has mainly been to establish a frank dialogue between peers seek- ing to exchange experiences, news, and market background. Key aims of the As- sociation are: a) to collaborate with each of the States in the development of social solidarity. b) to collaborate with the public author- ities, through the provision of technical and economic information, in the study and solution of problems related to its area of action. c) to represent the interests of its mem- bers before all authorities, as well as before entities representing economic and/or professional categories. d) to increase technological develop- ment in the retreading sector, through study and research, as well as through exchange with similar entities, including those of other regions, also in the com- mercial sphere. e) to collaborate with other entities in the defence of the high interests of pri- vate initiative. f) to promote the development and pro- fessionalisation of the associates and their employees in each national terri- tory. g) To disseminate best business and technical practices. The Association accepts that for all of this to come true, the first thing to do is to wake up. ALARNEU, during this year’s Latin Tyre & Auto Parts Expo in Panama, took the first step, defining the need to generate online conferences to discuss topics relevant to the Tyre Retreading Industry, namely: the need for statistics; the emergence and development of EPR models; tyre retreading as an example of circular economy; and the measurement of the carbon footprint of the retread- ed tyre compared to a new tyre, among other topics. For this, Daniel Rojas Enos, General Manager of ARNEC from Chile, was appointed as Coordinator/Spokes- person. The second step is planned to take place in mid-October when, through ANRE, the Colombian Retreaders Associa- tion, a series of virtual meetings will be established, through which an itin- erary will be drawn up with the aim of strengthening the Association and pri- oritising the need to be a data centre/ entity. “We want a renovated ALARNEU for these new times,” commented Daniel Rojas Enos.
