CONFIDENCE GROWS IN THE RETREADING CONCEPT
In response to questions about the effect of the Corona Pande- mic, the International Shipping Crisis and the Ukrainian war on the transport and tyre markets in Jordan, Subuh answered that many construction projects stopped at that time, badly affecting
truck tyre consumption, but due to the shortage of supply for new tyres, end users started to rely on and trust retreads. “Du- ring that period some new transporters proved to gain loyalty for the tyre retreading concept, to the extent of considering it a part of the life cycle of the new tyre,” he said.
Alshoyoukh Tire factory is located in the Sahab Industrial district of Amman, on the main highway from Jordan to Iraq and Saudi, explained Nabil Subuh. The area of the factory is one thousand two hundred square metres, the machinery line is placed over an area of four hundred and fifty metres, with a second floor for the administrative staff. There are also seven stores for raw ma- terials as well as the customers’ tyres and Alshoyoukh’s own ca- sings. “We have two production lines with a total of 20 tyres per cure, Elgi Indian machinery and an American one from Hercules, whilst the source of our raw material is Tolins’ manufacturing fa- cility in UAE.
The tyre retreading business is very important for me and my fa- mily,” added Subuh. “My son Ahmed is helping me in the Jordan factory now. I am teaching him all the techniques needed for the job, both the technical and the commercial. Despite the tough situation we have been facing since a long period of time, I very much care about keeping the factory running and delivering the products and services we used to deliver since our start up. We, as a family, decided to develop the business by starting another retread factory in UAE with a respectful Indian partner. My bro- ther Mahmoud manages the business there.”
