 G&S TYRES SWITCHES
TO MARANGONI
AND BECOMES FIRST RETREADER TO JOIN NTDA
Left to Right: Phil Robinson (Marangoni), Gary Short (G&S Tyres) and Stefan Hay (NTDA)
Times are changing at G&S Tyres. The family-owned retreader switched over to Marangoni in April following 33 years with Bandag. Meanwhile, in July the company became the first UK retreader to join the National Tyre Distributors’ Association (NTDA). We recently took the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone by visiting the company’s plant in Barking, East London and talking to G&S owner Gary Short as well as Phil Robinson, Marangoni’s Senior Country Manager for the UK, Ireland and the Middle East, and Stefan Hay, Director of the NTDA, about the company’s latest developments.
Gary Short: “Marangoni is currently like how Bandag was over thirty years ago when we first started working with them.”
Forty years after establishing G&S Tyres, Gary Short is very much still a hands-on manager, so on our arrival it was no surprise to find him in the yard sorting casings for processing in the retread plant. He is not the sort of man to change things on a whim, so the decision to switch to Marangoni was no small thing. However, he professed himself to be delighted with the decision to change suppliers, which has brought a new impetus to the company’s operations.
“Marangoni is currently like how Bandag was over thirty years ago when we first started working with them,” he says. Sales Director
