fleet management package marketed as TTMP (Total Tyre Management Programme).
Stamford has quite a varied fleet customer base. Firstly, the company services several major bus companies such as SMRT, Tower Transit, and Go Ahead Bus Singapore, these three making up some 50% of urban buses in Singapore. Stamford is also a major provider to the waste manage- ment sector with customers such as Sembwaste and Alba W&H Smart City Pte Ltd, also key suppliers to PSA (Port of Singapore Authorities), handling internal prime movers at Terminals 2 and 5 at Pasir Panjang, and a major supplier of industrial tyres for cranes. Main new tyres brands are Sumo and Firenza – the company’s in-house brands – plus Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear and Falken. Retreads are marketed under the name of Stamford Supertread.
The company’s retread plant is interesting in that it is built Hong-Kong style on the fourth floor of its fleet servicing building. According to Rupert Yeo, he was at first scepti- cal when the layout was proposed, but according to him the factory works well and manages to operates at one of the most manpower efficient plants in the region, produced 1,700 precured truck retreads per month with a total of 13 staff including an incoming goods operative and a sto- reman.
The plant is equipped with a complete monorail system from Newera, semi-automatic buffing and building machi-
nes, a Ferlex chamber, and a nailhole detector (Yeo consi- ders this sufficient for the demands of the Singapore mar- ket). 85% of the company’s tread liners are sourced from Eversafe, whilst envelopes are sourced from MAE and tyre repair patches from Tech. According to Yeo, the nature of the market in Singapore is such that repairs are mostly nail- hole repairs, with no sidewall repairs and no damage cau- sed by overloading, This, he says, is very different to other markets in the region.
