The Germany-based AZuR Network has recently been in the news due to a number of key initiatives designed to promote the tyre retreading and recycling sectors, not least the commissioning and publication of a brand-new Life Cycle Analysis of retreaded tyres carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology (UMSICHT). The study, which is part of a project funded by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) to the tune of around 91,000 euros, found that retreaded tyres produce over 60 percent less CO2 emissions than new tyres of comparable quality, primarily as a result of energy savings achieved in the manufacturing process and the reduced use of raw                  the Baden-Württemberg State Representation in Berlin.
