Despite the usual challenges of increasing competition and the continued price war, the company will soon embark on expanding in the states of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. “We are expanding on the basis of an in-depth survey and scope in the respective markets,” Malhotra said.
The Gujarat site is likely to be operational by the middle of 2020 and the Madhya Pradesh plant by the end of the first quarter 2021. “We are considering investing about INR 10 million in the two sites. The Gujarat plant is most likely to be in
the Ahmedabad area and the Madhya Pradesh site in either Indore or Bhopal.” All locations are considered as major transport hubs and bases of large fleets in their respective states.
The company has no plans to invest in the land but says it is likely to operate from rented premises at both locations. The plants would have capacity to retread 1,000 tyres each month. “We hope to add a minimum 6,000 tyres from the Gujarat plant in the total production during the next fiscal to scale-up the cumulative production to 30,000 tyres from the group companies in fiscal 2020.”

Indag’s largest franchisee Haryana Cold Retreads Pvt Ltd is to embark on an ambitious expansion plan as part of its ‘Vision 2020’ strategy. The plan involves hiking capacity and production at its mother site in the Rojka-Meo Industrial Area in Nuh, in the Mewat district in the North Indian State of Haryana besides setting-up two new retreading sites in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Currently, Haryana Cold Retreads produces 18,000 retreads annually at its existing sites in Nuh Mewat and plans to raise the production levels by 25% i.e. by another 6,000 tyres annually. “As per Vision 2020, the plan is to produce 24,000 tyres in the next fiscal, that commences in April,” said KK Malhotra, Plant Head, Haryana Cold Retreads Pvt Ltd. “We will intensify our marketing drive by reaching out to our existing customers and converting them from partial to 100%. Currently, we are catering largely to the National Capital Region (NCR), but we are now expanding our customer base beyond NCR and into Uttar Pradesh,” he explained.
The rising target levels are expected to result in a 25% increase in raw material usage. “Presently, we source 200 tons of raw material from Indag annually, and, with the increase in production, this will increase to a total of 250 tons in a year,” he added.
The site operates on two 8-tyre autoclaves from Elgi, although the installation an of additional 8-tyre chamber is also under consideration. “We will soon be installing a monorail system in order to create ease in production, however, the installation of an additional autoclave would solely depend on market conditions,
