On display were samples of retreading and repair products including buffing blades and rasps, carbide wheels, balancing counterweights and repair materials
such as patches and chemicals. Ghitturi added, “The Automechanika show in Frankfurt is an extremely important event for Italmatic as it gives us the valuable opportunity to measure the demands of the retreading market for the imminent future.”
Elgi Rubber - Maintaining a Growing Presence in Europe
Xiamen Autotop Look to Grow European Presence
Established as a leading international manufacturer and supplier of a comprehensive range of raw materials, equipment, tools and accessories for the retreading market. India based Elgi Rubber also has a number of subsidiary offices around the world in Brazil, Australia, Kenya, The Netherlands, Sri Lanka and North America.
The company’s presence at Automechanika Frankfurt was handled by their Netherlands personnel, and Retreading Business spoke with Gerrit Rehorst (General Manager) and Peter van Paassen (Sales Manager) of Elgi Rubber Company BV, who are based in Amersfoort and handle Elgi’s business promotion throughout Europe.
Gerrit says, “Having been a regular exhibitor at the Essen Reifen Show
we came here to the show a little bit sceptical on what to expect, which is why the company only took a small booth on this occasion. To be perfectly honest, with tyres only being presented in one hall on the upper floor, the show has not been a huge success for the tyre industry as far as we are concerned.
“The positioning of the hall on the outer perimeters of the exhibition centre means that the tyre market is lost within one of the world’s largest and most successful automotive market shows. It just doesn’t work.” However, both Gerrit and Peter felt being at the event did give them another opportunity to promote the company’s brands and services and also have meetings with some of their established European customers.
Xiamen Autotop Technology Corporation are based in China and specialise in materials and tools for tyre retreading as well as vulcanising machines, patches, tubes, rubber solutions and cushion gum under the Taitec brand name.

Show Format
It is unusual for two leading companies in the international retreading market to join forces and exhibit from the same stand, but that is exactly what Italian based Matteuzzi and Cima Impianti did at the Automechanika Frankfurt show last month.
Retreading Business spoke with Matteuzzi’s Alberto Matteuzzi and Cima Impianti’s Alessandro Vignolini, who explained that as they offer different products and services for retreading, it made sense to share a stand at this new show format. Matteuzzi said, “We were unsure how successful the show’s switch from Essen to Frankfurt would be, so we are both here on a fact-finding mission for the future. We never anticipated the tyre sector would be as large as in Essen, but we did not
anticipate having just the upstairs area of a single hall.”
Both men professed themselves to be disappointed at the ‘insignificant’ presence of the Reifen Hall at the show and felt justified in taking such a cautious approach.
Neither company was introducing any new products at the event and just showcased a general selection of their products and services, with Matteuzzi incorporating machinery and equipment for various sectors of the retreading market and Cima Impianti focussing on presses and moulds for tyre retreading.
Vignolini concluded, “We were both able to use the show as an international meeting point for our existing customers, which is always a useful exercise.”

promote the company’s extensive product base and growing presence in the Northern European market sector.
Tip Topol is the exclusive distributor in Poland for Stahlgruber’s, range of tyre repair materials and was making its debut at the Frankfurt show with its own stand. This move reflects the ongoing growth in the company’s brand image during the past couple of years.
A company spokesman told Retreading Business, “This is an extremely busy show and we have been busy with enquiries about our extensive product range every day. We are pleased to be exhibiting at such a prestigious event for the retreading sector of the industry.”
