      COMPANY NEWS
conditions such as black ice, snow, slush, ice and frost. It applies even if these conditions are not present before de¬parture, but are to be expected. He referred to the responsibilities of not only drivers, but now also of vehicle keepers, as well as fines for non-compliance, and gave details of locations in Europe where winter tyres are mandatory. The perception that the new requirements for tyres make driving safer in winter was central to his presentation.
In this context, he presented recent
test results of the braking distance of an unloaded semitrailer (12t) fitted with winter tyres, which will be redu¬ced by nearly ten metres compared to standard tyres. The braking dis¬tance is reduced by a good six metres if the drive axle has winter tyres and by just less than three metres if the trailer or tractor are equipped accordingly. Pleasing for users: winter tyres get you to your destination not only more safely, but also more quickly, and therefore more econo¬mically. This is because, while winter tyres on
the driving axle alone ac¬celerate a semitrailer from 0 to 50 km/h in 27 metres, standard tyres need 41 metres.
The attendees also had the opportunity to satisfy themselves of this in practice. A truck owned by Dicker Transport & Logistik GmbH, the Kraiburg Austria test partner, demonstrated the performance of the retreads in simulated winter conditions on the Drive Technology site. Both mould cured and precured K700/CD2 retreads fitted to the traction axle and
K801/CT3 retreads fitted to the trailer axle impressively demonstrated their ability to withstand the conditions. For both methods, Kraiburg Austria offers the optimal mix or the right treads – including with 3PMSF markings.
Tyre cost optimisation
As a service to retreading partners and their customers, Kraiburg Austria concluded the conference with two guest presentations. Antonin Ruzicka, the Director of
OPTIM services s.r.o., presented the tyre mana¬gement software, OptimTyre: the web-based application enables fast and accurate data collection, records all operations for the tyres, refers to the inspection, tyre exchange and recutting dates, calculates tyre costs per kilometre, estimates tyre requirements for the upcoming time period, maximises tyre performance and tyre service life and reduces tyre costs by up to 30 percent. The data is recorded in such a way that all users get the same information and everyone therefore knows what must be done, and when.
Martin Skutek, Director of Auris CZ, spol. s.r.o., then presented a new¬ly designed tyre pressure monitoring system: PneuTel gathers infor¬mation about the current operating status of tyres for the entire fleet. The system contributes to cost savings, prevention, classification and safety. It does this by detecting tyre pressures that are not within the optimal recommended range, both slow and sudden losses of tyre pressure, any mechanical changes to the vehicle axle, as well as any overrun of the expected tyre mileage.
