working with Marangoni, but for the last three years has been working with Goodyear, and is very happy with this cooperation. “We are a certified plant of Goodyear in Latvia, and we can say that our partner participates very proactively in help us solve our problems, unlike other companies. They also closely monitor the situation with the
rise of the share of Chinese tyres in the market and the resultant depression in the retreading industry, and is making advances with the reduction of the cost of raw materials where it is possible as well as in other areas. They are supporting their partners in a crisis situation, since they want the retreading business to endure,” Cerkovnuks suggested.
operating trucks are no longer fitting retreaded tyres. At the same time Cerkovnuks says that there are still large numbers of truck fleets focused on the European market, who are still willing to operate with the use of retreaded tyres, rather than new Chinese tyres.

Quality casings can be found in the Latvian market, even despite the fact our drivers have a very low culture of tyre maintenance and management. As a result, out of 10 tyres only 2-3 are fit for retreading, but even with this we are able to reduce our spend, as previously we had to pay for imported casings, whereas now we are getting them almost for free,” he added.

“In general, Baltread, in the retreading segment, works about 30 per cent with the casings of our clients, and 70 per cent with our own casings. In the premium segment the potential for exceptional mileage performance is huge, since good truck tyres can cover 3–400,000 km, while Chinese tyres only achieve 100,000 km or so,” he said, adding that 5 per cent of the retreading business is still accounted for by passenger tyres. Cerkovnuks also emphasised that Baltread had previously been
