REIFEN Show Draws a Curtain on Essen and Moves Closer to Automechanika
status as the no. 1 dedicated tyre trade show in the world.
However, 2016 marked the end of an era, for it was the last time that the show will be taking place in Essen. Reifen 2018 will take place in Frankfurt in September 2018, in parallel to Automechanika, and although Messe Essen were talking up the event as part of their global partnership with Messe Frankfurt, the organisers of Automechanika,
it was clear to many who attended the show that Essen had lost out ultimately to Koelnmesse, the organisers of “The Tire Cologne”, whose 2018 launch event will take place in June 2018 with the support of the German tyre dealers association, the BRV and the majority of the main tyre manufacturers.
Messe Essen, in their post-show report, were putting a brave face
on things. “I am pleased with the exceedingly positive response of many exhibitors, who are already making plans for Reifen 2018 in parallel with Automechanika,” commented Oliver P. Kuhrt, Managing Director of Messe Essen.

Although the majority of visitors had travelled from elsewhere in Europe, the largest percentage increase in visitors to the Essen Trade Fair came from Asia.
30 per cent of trade visitors, moreover, came from the tyre servicing sector, and a further 29 per cent from tyre retail. Around 90 per cent were decision-makers with responsibility for purchasing/procurement. All in
Almost 20,000 visitors from all over the world, including participants and visitors at the associated Future Tire Conference and RubberTech Europe visited the Reifen 2016 Exhibition in Essen, Germany between 24th and 27th May. With 675 exhibitors from 43 countries, the Essen Trade Fair had already set new exhibitor records in the run-up to the event, underlining the show’s
