Continental Malaysia Introduces C3 – ContiCasing Warranty
HDR2+ (Continental) which are to be launched in 2016.
Continental says the C3 warranty does not apply if the casing displays non-manufacturing related
conditions, details of which are with all authorised dealers, or if the casing failure mode is related to the retreading process.
Continental is guaranteeing its latest products in the Malaysian market with its new ‘C3 - The ContiCasing Warranty’. The C3 warranty provides truck tyre customers with the promise that a Continental tyre will last three lives, first as a new tyre and subsequently over two retread lives. This means a new truck tyre can last up to 6 years when retreaded by Continental or one of its ContiLifeCycle partners. “There is no better way to stand by our products than to offer our customers this enhanced C3 warranty as a promise of durability and longevity,” said Cameron Wilson, Managing Director, Continental Tyre Malaysia.
Should the new tyre require an adjustment, Continental will provide a concessional replacement subjected to terms in the agreement: The first retread life of the tyre, which is also the tyre’s second life, will be adjusted on 60 per cent of the new tyre price. The second retread life, which is the tyre’s third life, will be adjusted on
15 per cent of the new tyre price. All adjustments will be made by Continental and are subject to the full terms and agreement of the C3 warranty.
It is a term in the C3 warranty that all the retreaded tyres must be retreaded with ContiTread or TechnoTread by Continental or by a ContiLifeCycle partner. The C3 warranty currently only applies to qualifying Continental and General Tire branded radial truck tyres that are 19.5” diameter in size or greater. These truck tyres must also be used strictly for commercial purposes only.
The following tyres apply for the C3 ContiCasing Warranty: size 11R22.5 of HS Hybrid, HDR2+, CUA3 and CHT3 (all Continental) with DOT0316 production date; 275/70R22.6 CUA3 Continental to be launched in 2016; 295/80R22.5 HD Hybrid, HDR2+, CHS3 (Continental) and RA and RD patterns (General Tire), all with DOT0316 production date; and 315/80R22.5 of HS Hybrid and
TRMAM Reacts to Hike in Foreign Workers Levy
The Tyre Retreading Manufacturers’ Association of Malaysia (TRMAM) has professed itself to be “shocked and appalled” by the Malaysian government’s announcement of the hike in the foreign worker levy (FW) for the manufacturing sector from RM 1,250 to RM 2,500, which the Association says has been doubled without any prior notice or consultation with the industry.
In a strongly worded statement, the Secretariat of the Association said; “We are totally surprised and disappointed by the abruptness of this announcement, given that the government has been portraying that it is an inclusive and consultative government.
“The economic slowdown is already straining the operations of the tyre retreading business in Malaysia,” the statement continued. “This is
further compounded by imposition of GST, falling value of the Ringgit and the soon-to-be-implemented new minimum wages in July, 2016. Malaysia is becoming less attractive for foreign workers to work in. A shortage of workers, whether local or foreign, will have a significant and adverse effect on the tyre retreading business in particular, and the economy of the country in general.
“We are deeply concerned as the hike in FW levy would detrimentally impact the cost of doing business, which could lead to business failures and would ultimately be passed on to consumers and result in price increases. We strongly urge the government to revoke the decision on the hikes of Foreign Workers levy.”
