       LATIN AMERICA
Kal Tire Expands Operations in Chile
DPaschoal Takes Tyres to Agricultural Shows
Kal Tire’s Mining Tire Group has opened a new OTR tyre retread and repair facility near the port city of Antofagasta, in the heart of Chile’s mining industry.
“Kal Tire has been supporting the Chilean mining industry for many years,” commented Pedro Pacheco, vice president operations, Kal Tire Latin America. “Our customers here have been asking us for the ability to retread their tyres, so we’re looking forward to delivering this service to help them grow and remain competitive.”
The new facility, which is approximately 20,000 square metres, was built in La Negra, an industrial complex east of Antofagasta, and
conveniently located between the port city and an important mining region. Like all Kal Tire OTR retread and repair facilities, it will accommodate all tyres sizes up to 63 inches. There is also
room allocated for tyre storage, office space and support services.
“This modern facility will bring to Chile’s mining industry the same value-added services our customers enjoy in Canada, Ghana and England,” said Pacheco. Kal Tire already has four earthmover and retreading plants across three continents. As plans were drawn for a fifth to open in Chile, plant manager Jorge Cardenas spent one and a half years training at Kal Tire’s retread facility in Kamloops, BC, Canada.
Kal Tire began operating in Chile almost 20 years ago. It was the first international expansion for the organisation. Year over year the
company has seen growth in both tyre services and sales. “We’ve been doing tyre repairs and retreading truck tyres for approximately 16 years,” says Pacheco. “But our new facility will enable us to add to our capacity. We can now offer OTR retread services and deliver in shorter times.”
Dpaschoal, the largest truck service operation in Sao Paulo, took its services to recent agricultural fairs in the South and Southeast of Brazil. In January and February, DPaschoal had a presence in the major agricultural fairs held in Santa Catarina, Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
For the business manager of DPaschoal’s truck and agricultural lines, Divino Lima, participation in these fairs is very important for the company. "The rural sector remains strong and we at Dpaschoal bring to our booth experts who will advise on the importance of correct choice of tyres and the care needed to use the whole cycle of their useful life. We were rewarded for our "Green
Economy" programme and it is this concept that we are bringing to the public at the fairs, as well as all our know-how," he concluded.
The tyre is one of the most important elements on any vehicle, it is responsible for both supporting the weight of the machine and its handling. The wrong selection may impair the mechanical performance of the vehicle, as well as compromising the productivity of the fleet. DPaschoal offers not only a new tyre service, but also tyre management, repairs and retreading services that maximise the value of the tyre and extend its useful lifespan.
