WORLD NEWS
Rays Tire Celebrates 10 Years with MTNA
Marangoni Tread North America (MTNA) was recently delighted to announce that Ray’s Tire is celebrating 10 years as a Marangoni dealer. Ray’s Tire is a family owned company that provides commercial tyre services from new and used tyres, service andrepair, and a complete modernised Ringtread retread plant.
Ray’s Tire has grown over the years to become a significant provider of commercial retread tyres in Wisconsin. Through the years, Ray’s Tire has worked hard to earn the trust of its
customers, and that loyalty has continued through the generations. That means they are now serving the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of their first customers from the 1930s.
Owner David Ellis said; “Prior to Marangoni, we had so many restrictions and limitations that we were unable to continue to grow and
expand our business. Profitability and the ability to be independent combined with the Ringtread Splice-Less technology has afforded us control over our future without restrictions.”
During a recent Marangoni sales and manufacturing conference, M.T.N.A. President & C.E.O/Bill Sweatman presented Owner David Ellis with a certificate recognising the company’s 10 year association with Marangoni Tread North America.

New Focus from Akar Makina - Effıcıency and Productıvıty in Retreading
The tyre retreading sector is growing and expanding to new markets every year and the penetration of the retreading business is further growing in the existing market. The main trend and focus have become more productive and efficient retreading plants delivering high quality tyres meeting increasing regulations in retreading processes. Productivity can be achieved through minimising operation times, either retreading more tyres with the exisiting workforce or retreading the same average quantity with a lower work force.
Considering the number of retreaded
newly developed cushion gum extruder, AKR 550. Retreaders can buff their tyres in 2 – 3 minutes with a CNC Buffer, achieve a quick curing cycle with Akarmak’s autoclaves and significantly minimise their labour costs with AKR550 cushion gum extruder. In addition, AKR550 has the following clear advantages:
-Less cushion gum consumption compared with traditional methods. -Less equipment needed without any need for an additional tread preparation table and cushion gum cutter.
-Lower workforce; instead of three operators for different stations, only
tyres in the market, most retreaders are under pressure to process more tyres and increase their production volume. We have seen tremendous consolidations in the retreading industry in many markets and the most significant consolidation has occured in the USA with a dropping number of retreading shops from over 2000 to less than 700 in the last 20 years. In addition to the US, many markets have followed a similar path. While the number of retreaded tyres have increased, the number of retreading plants has decreaased. To meet market needs and stay competitive, existing retreading plants are investing in technology and increasing their efficiencies through other ways to avoid losing their competitiveness or to avoid going out of business. Using capable and technological machinery and equipment is a big part of the equation to stay competitive, and Akarmak says it has the answer for its customers operating in this challenging new environment, offering its technologically advanced machinery.
The real efficiency, says Akar Makina, can be achieved using one of Akarmak’s CNC controlled buffers (AKR 240C or AKR 240HCX), tread builders and autoclaves as well as its
one operator is needed for the complete cycle.
Given the many advantages of the machine, the initial investment cost is quite reasonable, and it is recommended for retreaders with medium or high capacities starting with a minimum of 500 tyres per month.
When one considers a typical retreading plant with 1000 tyres per month volume, the savings can be easily calculated.
Akarmak offers similar advantages with its advanced OTR orbitread retreading machinery, the REX series of CNC buffers. The orbitread system of OTR retreading allows more flexibility in production by having many available tyre patterns with sophisticated regrooving. The OTR tyres can be peeled, buffed, built with extrusion of rubber and regrooved after curing in a single station. The advantages of using this method: -Less stocking of raw material needed, mainly rubber.
-Fewer consumable materials such as envelopes .
-Lower workforce and faster/flexible operation times.
-No cushion gum usage.
Akarmak has orbitread packages Orbipack (up to 51“) and Ultraorbipack (up to 63“), offering
multifunctional AKR 510 REX and AKR 630 REX with peeling, buffing, building and regrooving functions. A typical OTR plant can be run with 4 operators and is able to retread up to 5 average size OTR tyres per shift. Shown here is the 510REX station recently supplied to a customer by Akarmak. The plants can be supplied
as complete packages including large size autoclaves 100 per cent manufactured by Akarmak and other supplementary equipment as part of Akarmak’s turnkey project execution. Akarmak can also include know-how and training, if requested by its customers.
