SHOWTIME
     64 Retreading Business
Go-Ahead for the “New Messe Essen”
first time in 2016. The media company Crain Communications will be the organiser of the conference. The complete range on offer at Reifen and Rubber Tech Europe at Messe Essen will extend from the stage before the production via manufacturing and trading right up to retreading and recycling. The exhibitors will include not only the world's leading tyre manufacturers and trading firms but also, for example, chemical
companies and machine constructors. Because the portfolio of Rubber Tech Europe will feature rubber chemicals and raw materials as well as testing machinery and mechanical equipment for the tyre industry. Two thirds of the exhibitors at Reifen see that as a sensible supplement to the premier global fair.
Rubber Tech Europe is a joint venture between Messe Essen and the Chinese organiser CURC with which the people from Essen have already organised Reifen China since 2007. Oliver P. Kuhrt, CEO of Messe Essen, was pleased about the joint commitment in the long term: "The triad consisting of Reifen, Rubber Tech Europe and the Future Tire Conference will show the high status of Messe Essen as the leading competence centre in the tyre sector - particularly after the departure of the Tire Technology Expo from Cologne. In this respect, the primary production will be doubly important: On the one hand, it is an economic factor and a driving force behind
innovation. On the other hand, the exhibiting tyre manufacturers will meet their ancillary suppliers in Essen at the same time - and will thus obtain value added which no other meeting places in the sector offer to them."
As another advantage, Messe Essen will offer an attractive supporting programme to the exhibitors at and visitors to Reifen and Rubber Tech Europe: At the Future Tire Conference relating to the future of the tyre industry, representatives of international associations, manufacturers and other companies will discuss subjects such as new production processes and raw materials for more sustainability. Not only Crain Communications but also the European Rubber Journal will be the organisers.
Steve Crowhurst, Publishing and Events Director at Crain Communications, justified the decision in favour of Messe Essen with the high internationality of Reifen, too: "Reifen at Messe Essen will be the ideal setting for the Future Tire Conference. All the important decision takers and experts will be in situ in Essen.
One absolute success factor will be the internationality with around two thirds international exhibitors and visitors. We are looking forward to the cooperation with Messe Essen's team which has experience in the sector." Reifen and Rubber Tech Europe 2016 will be open at Messe Essen from May 24 to 27.
Reconstruction of the famous Messe Essen allows for cutting-edge exhibition conditions in Essen. This is great news for exhibitors and visitors alike. Messe Essen will now implement the modernisation of the fair site as previously planned.
The reconstruction will provide one of the most state-of-the-art exhibition centres in Germany and thus become a contemporary and competitive marketplace.
The modernisation measures will not only be architectonically genuine eye- catchers but will, above all, fully meet the exhibitors' and visitors' demands on a modern fair site. Inviting entrance areas, a spacious, completely one-storey hall structure in a consistent look and feel plus all the latest technological advances - this mix will make Messe Essen ready for the future.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction project with an investment value of Euro 90 million will take place on May 2, 2016.
"The modernisation is an important step towards making our fair venue attractive and competitive," says Oliver P. Kuhrt, CEO of Messe Essen. "I am very pleased that our conversion concept fulfils the wishes of exhibitors and visitors. Short distances, contemporary architecture as well as a spacious, one-storey hall structure with easy access – the ‘New Messe Essen’ will provide perfect conditions for both trade and consumer fairs."
The most important demand on the conversion includes the elimination of the previous two-storey halls while retaining the area requirements. Five new, large hall areas with optimised logistics are planned instead of the 14 small-scale halls in the north part today. In the east entrance area, the conversion also makes provision for a modern glass foyer with an area of around 2,000 m2 as well as new facades in the east and the north. Moreover, the modernisation of the entire fair site will also encompass the energy supply and the air conditioning. For example, ultramodern ventilation technology will ensure that a stable temperature and a high air quality will exist across the halls. The concept also includes the creation of additional rooms in the area of today's foyer in order to widen the available range of conference and congress facilities. A new, classy guest lounge and a VIP club with separate access complete the performance of the New Messe Essen.
"The new plans will create a fair venue which will more than satisfy all the requirements of our current and future fair portfolios," according to Oliver P. Kuhrt. "Now we will get on with the next planning stages and the invitation to tender for the construction measures in order to adhere to the planned ground- breaking ceremony on May 2nd, 2016."
The Tire Cologne: A New Broom
Rubber Tech Europe and the Future Tire Conference To Run at Reifen Essen
In a meeting with Hans Jurgen Drechsler at Tire Tech in February, the move by the BRV to establish a new event in Cologne was explained to Retreading Business. “Messe Essen is, in our view, no longer suitable for such a leading event. The BRV has long supported Reifen, but looking to the future we need a more modern venue and a more accessible location. After looking at various locations we settled on Cologne with its easy access Koelnmesse with all halls on one level and aces via a central corridor.
“We never expected Messe Essen to give up Reifen, but we are confident that the large players in the tyre industry will support the move to Cologne and that when they come on board then others will follow.
“We are confident that we can establish Cologne with The Tire event
in 2018. We are looking at all avenues of the tyre industry from cradle to grave and are open to ideas that will help us develop the event and retain in Europe the world’s leading tyre industry event.”
As we discussed The Tire, at the Tire Tech show, there was some irony that Tire Tech as on the move in 2016 from Cologne to Hanover. “Even this creates possibilities for The Tire,” said Drechsler. “There are exhibitors here who are part of the tyre industry but who have never attended Reifen. There are opportunities to involve the whole tyre industry in a positive way and we will discuss opportunities with anyone who is interested in becoming part of what will become the number one tyre event in Europe. After a successful premiere in 2014, Messe Essen and the Chinese United Rubber Corporation (CURC) have extended the contract for Rubber Tech Europe up to and including 2020. In the future, too, the trade fair relating to the stage before the tyre production will take place under the roof of the premier global fair Reifen at Messe
Essen. Thus, Reifen will secure for itself the important subject of the primary production for tyres in the long term and will be the only trade fair anywhere in the world to portray the entire value added chain of the tyre. In addition, the Future Tire Conference will take place during Reifen and Rubber Tech Europe for the
