Michelin Subsidiary, Pneu Laurent has seen a growth in retreading in recent years. Over the past five years, the retread has strengthened its influence in Europe. In difficult times the industry has even shown a real resilience, retreading winning with transport stakeholders and civil engineering as a wise choice, both economically and ecologically.
Pneu Laurent has perfectly positioned itself on the replacement market where nearly one in two truck tyres is retreaded.
The strength of Pneu Laurent is mainly in its ability to not depend solely on the French market, although it still has seen growth in market share in France. Sales volumes have been increasing for its Swiss and Belgian customers, and since 1st March the
company has added Spain to its target markets. Its growth is also supported by the production of treads for Recamic, another Michelin subsidiary: products sold in Germany, Turkey, Italy and the South American continent. "In this context of stability, we must fight harder to maintain our market share or win. Now we are armed to fight," says Denis Goubrel, director of Pneu Laurent.
Pneu Laurent intends to rely on the strength of Michelin in Spain to enter a market where retreading activity is more difficult to win. "The competition is made up of regional actors. There is no equivalent of a Pneu Laurent. This is why we see growth potential in Spain, because we are the only company to offer a full range of retreaded tyres."
