     Vipal to Boost Export Business
Vipal, has seen exports grow so successfully that it is dedicating a whole plant to producing materials for the export market.
Vipal first entered the European market in 2005 and in 2014 the European market represents 15 per cent of the company’s global turnover. With the company doing so well in Europe it is now ready to take another step in building its market share.
Vipal’s performance in Europe has seen rapid growth and it is this growth, outstripping that in other markets, that has attracted its attention to develop the European markets. Currently its main stronghold is in Spain and Portugal but there are also strong representations of Vipal in the UK and Italy, and of course Germany is a large market and any entry into that market bodes well for the future.
In the Brazilian market Vipal claims a market share of around 30 per cent, a figure matched in Argentina and exceeded in Bolivia, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay.
This strength in exports led Vipal to the decision to focus its export business at one point of manufacture, at the Nova Prata plant. This facility is capable of producing some 30000 tonnes of precure tread per month.
Alessandro added that the company was also seeking routes into markets in Africa and Asia where it sees a huge potential as the countries of the continent modernise and stabilise. Modern infrastructures and moves to control road freight all serve to create a positive environment for retreading.
Bandag FuelTech
FuelTech is the latest tread line from Bridgestone Bandag. This range has been available to operators using Bridgestone’s Ecopia range in the North American market for the past few years. It is now being made available in the European market.
With fuel costs equating to around 30 per cent of running costs, running tyres that are fuel efficient is clearly a sensible way to ease the burden of the fuel bill.
According to Bridgestone Bandag some 40 per cent of the rolling resistance of a tyre is determined by the tread, so choosing low rolling resistance tread is very important. Bandag’s FuelTech has been formulated to be the perfect answer to a fleet's cost challenges: a new tread line that combines a minimal rolling resistance with a long tyre life. Using FuelTech yields a double advantage: excellent performance in terms of fuel consumption, on top of the significant cost advantages and ecological benefits because of the retreading itself.
Indeed, Bandag claims that its retreads deliver, on average, 30 per cent lower cost per kilometre than new tyres, and require about 70 per cent less raw materials than new tyres, drastically reducing CO2 emissions during production.
Additionally, according to Bandag, FuelTech retreads deliver excellent fuel efficiency and ecofriendly benefits, using advanced tread compounds and innovative tread design, without compromise on life, durability and wet-weather performance.
The designs are based on Bridgestone’s successful flagship Ecopia truck tyre range. Currently, two products are available:
• The drive tread M749 FuelTech, featuring all-seasons safe M+S design, speed index - M • The trailer tread R109 FuelTech® , featuring the typical Bandag mini-wing providing a great finished product appearance, low noise design, speed index - J
The FuelTech treads are designed for a perfect fit with Bridgestone and other premium brand casings. They are available in size line-ups allowing the retreading of the most common casing sizes used within this segment.
To maximize the fuel saving effect, Bandag recommends using Bridgestone Ecopia casings, as the complete casing structure contributes for about 50 per cent to the tyre's rolling resistance. Together, Bridgestone Ecopia and Bandag FuelTech provide a lower total cost of ownership over the entire life of the tyres.
