Green Arc is producing an eco-tyre with one of the highest post consumer contents of any recycled product. Green Arc's eco tyres have equal performance and life of regular tyres, at 30 to 50 per cent less cost.
"Over the past decade, our local labour force has experienced a loss of traditional manufacturing jobs, said Carl Zehr, Mayor of Kitchener.
"I was encouraged to learn of these two local companies coming together to create new manufacturing job opportunities and promote green innovation."
On behalf of the Town of St. Marys, I congratulate Green Arc on taking another step forward as they continue to move towards the opening of their St. Marys manufacturing operation," said Steve Grose, Mayor of St. Marys. Green Arc plans to begin production this spring. Its modern new St. Marys facility will create 340 new jobs and generate more than $100 million annually in economic benefits.
Untersinger said expensive tools, such as laptops for diagnostic checks or TPMS diagnostic tools, would be stored here.
“The machines let dealerships that have equipment with high value control who has it and when it comes back,” he said. “If it doesn’t come back in a certain time window it will trigger an alert, up to five different escalations.”
Tools that need to be calibrated could also be stored in the locker with software locking the tool in until a calibration code has been
input.
Untersinger said access to the machines can be given through a keypad, magnetic strip, ID card or bar code reader. Additionally, the machine also can be programmed to ask for a work order number, he said.
Myers said the machines are already seeing a lot of use in retreading facilities, but would work well for any of its clients, including tyre dealers, automobile dealerships, retreaders and commercial fleet operators.
Goodyear Touts Retreadability of Self-Sealing Tyres
Myers Partners with Apex Supply Chain for MTS Vending Machine
Goodyear, Akron, in a move to counter claims that tyres using sealant are less retreadable, says that its DuraSeal self-sealing tyres are as retreadable as traditional tyres.
The DuraSeal tyres have a gel-like substance that is coated into a tyre’s casing when it is manufactured, and instantly seals nail-hole punctures up to a quarter inch in diameter. “Goodyear’s DuraSeal Technology not only keeps trucks up and running, which helps prevent expensive downtime and helps fleets reduce their overall operating costs,” said Todd Labbe, general manager, commercial retread, Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems. “It also is fully retreadable to help
deliver DuraSeal’s benefits through multiple casing retreads.”
The DuraSeal technology also helps prevent tyres from running under- inflated.
“Running a tyre under-inflated can significantly damage the casing’s overall integrity, which may prevent it from being retreaded,” added Labbe. “Maintaining correct inflation pressure levels is one of the most important things a fleet can do to help preserve casing integrity.”
The tyres are available for long-haul trucks, waste haul trucks, construction vehicles and more.
Myers Tire Supply has partnered with Apex Supply Chain Technologies to bring automated dispensing solutions – vending machines – to its customers. The MTS Xpress vending machine will provide Myers customers with a secure, accurate, real-time way to manage and control their high-cost, high-use and mission critical inventory items.
"By placing Apex vending machines directly at the point-of-use, we are providing a system where our customers can better optimise their inventory,” said Todd Smith,

move faster and more jobs will finish each week.”
Myers recently debuted the vending machines to its sales staff at its recent ‘Power of One’ sales fair/meeting.
The MTS Xpress vending programme leverages Apex’s cloud- based Trajectory Enterprise Technology Platform to provide users with real-time information and automated replenishment, based on customer set parameters, the company said.
There are several versions of the vending machines, but machines will initially be provided to help customers manage inventory of their TPMS, Myers said.
One option is a traditional looking vending machine and would be used with “high consumable items.”
The thought process is to have the tools
where they need to be and not take the
technician away from the service job too long, said Jamie Untersinger, business development specialist at Apex Supply Chain Technologies.
One other vending machine, which looks like a locker, would be used more as asset management.
Only 17% Spot the Retreads at MATS
At the recent Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, TRIB held its annual "Spot the Retreads" contest for show attendees.
With the help of several member companies, TRIB displayed a selection of nine new and retreaded tyres for contestants to try and identify and have a chance to win a set of eight freshly retreaded tyres. More than 280 people tested their skill at identifying the tyres, but only 17 per cent of them correctly tapped the retreads.
“Having them go back and look at the retreaded tyres they missed really opened up opportunities to have a broader
discussion about the quality of retreaded tyres and purchase options for these owner- operators,” TRIB said.
After the show, TRIB drew the names of seven winners who will each be receiving a set of eight retreaded tyres on their casings with the help of sponsoring members, including: AcuTread, Bridgestone Americas, Continental Tire the Americas, Goodyear Retreads, Marangoni Tread North America, Michelin North America and its Oliver brand.
