other parts of the market, in particular the rim and flange system and the extended skirt system.
The new envelopes are made with a single piece of moulded rubber, which does not have a joint or splice. They are also lubricated and offer a better fitment to the tyre, which in turn gives more stability to the envelope shape during its life. The number of cures is also improved significantly
and therefore
so is the cost
per cure.
“We have
been
investing
heavily in this
new
product,”
says
Giampaolo
Malatesta.
“We see the
ST envelope
as a ‘new
generation product’ which will play a major role in the future of retreading, even if the traditional product continues to exist.”
MAE is now in the process of launching the ST through a number of new markets. In Brazil the company organised a convention to explain the product to customers, whilst in other parts of South America, new distribution agreements have been signed, with Rediserv in Colombia, Equiser in Equador and Briomaq in Argentina. MAE has now been active in the market for 35 years and it is 5 years since the company moved to its new factory in Anagni between Rome and Naples. The company emphasises the breadth of the company’s range of envelopes and its ability to cover the whole market.
If a customer changes its technology, we can follow,” says Alessandro Malatesta. Each global region has a different predominant style of retreading and we can service all of them. The extended skirt system is mainly USA, Australia and South Africa the Flange system is mostly in South America and Asia, the steam
bonder in India”.
For the Double Envelope system predominant in Europe, MAE has traditionally sold the established “SL” envelope. The company has 18 sizes in this range, which have been on the market since 1996. These are now being gradually replaced by the new compression mould “ST” outer envelope.
MAE also offers 12 sizes of Inner
Italian retreader Malatesta Pneumatici has announced a number of new investments and product developments at its factory in Anagni near Rome
In April 2013 the company invested in a new filter system to reduce, close to zero, the emissions to the atmosphere. The dust extraction system was installed in order to conform to local requirements in
capability. There is also a new winter pattern called Thermic, currently available in 215/55 R 16. Malatesta have also been active in retail in the Anagni area of Italy. For the past two years the company has operated a retail store next to the production facility in Anagni, which sells retreads only. This workshop has now been expanded to incorporate four fitting bays as a
result of unexpectedly good feedback from the local market.
“We want to increase the range of services available in the store,” says Matteo Malatesta. People are coming from as
far away as Rome 100 km away to change their tyres.”
Last but certainly not least, Malatesta reports that its range of solid tyres is also going well, particularly in Italy, Holland, Germany, Spain and Greece. Says Malatesta; “We are able to collect casings according to certain specifications, which is a big benefit for operators.”

MAE Moves Forward with Compression Mould ST Envelope
MAE Industria Gomma – M.I.G. SRL, the manufacturer of the MAE range of envelopes and curing tubes, is reporting considerable progress in the development of sales for its new compression mould “ST” type outer envelope. According to Giampaolo Malatesta, the product has been introduced through a number of European, Asian and North
American retreaders, where it has been well accepted.
“So far the feedback on the new ST outer envelopes has been very good, “says Malatesta. “Our target has initially been the people using the double envelope system for which we currently have ten sizes available. However, we will shortly be expanding the ST range to cover
