Singex Acquires ECI on the Back of Successful Tyrexpo India
Singex Exhibition Ventures (SEV), a subsidiary of the Singapore based Singex Group of companies, has announced that it has completed the acquisition of UK-based ECI International Ltd (ECI), the organisers of the Tyrexpo series of exhibitions in Asia, India, South Africa and Brityrex International in the UK. The news comes hot on the heels of a successful conclusion to the Tyrexpo India 2013 exhibition, which was held from 9-11 July in Chennai.
SEV and ECI already enjoy a professional relationship, due to their long standing co-operation on the Tyrexpo Asia exhibition, which is held at the Singapore Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre and is managed by Singex. SEV say they now plan to bring their full resources to bear on the organisation of future Tyrexpo events, to assist ECI founders, Paul Farrant and Rowena Suthers, in achieving the full potential of the existing shows, whilst also existing in new markets. According to ECI, this is likely to include at least two new tyre shows, with Latin America and the Middle East being key target areas.
Commenting on the agreement, Aloysius Arlando, Chief Executive Officer of SEV, said: “I am delighted that we were able to successfully conclude our arrangements with ECI International Ltd. This was made possible because of our shared vision about the potential for the Tyrexpo series, which have a positive future with new growth possibilities in multiple markets and emerging regions.
“I am delighted that Paul Farrant and Rowena Suthers of ECI will continue to remain closely involved in this next phase of growth, which will be backed by a dedicated team of experienced professionals from
Singex. Together, I am extremely confident that we will take these important exhibitions forward with the same entrepreneurial spirit and attention to personalised service which has come to be the hallmark of an ECI event.”
In response, Paul Farrant, Managing Director of ECI International, commented: “Over the last 14 years ECI has strived to achieve a high quality exhibition in each countr y it operates in, so that all exhibitors receive the highest level of presentation, marketing and customer service.
“The success of our exhibitions reflects the loyal support and close working relationship established with our exhibitors, who over the years have continuously invested in our shows. In turn this has assisted us in delivering business focussed tyre trade exhibitions which now have a very strong international following of buyers and suppliers. “We recognise that ECI has now reached a critical juncture where further investment is needed to grow and bring added value to our events. Having worked closely with us for many years, Singex was the most obvious partner to assist us in taking the business to the next level. Both Rowena and I very much look forward to the future, working with an expanded, highly professional team at SEV.”
The investment by Singex is good news not only for Farrant and Suthers, who have deservedly been able to reap the rewards of their investment over the years, but also for the future of the shows, as the founders freely admit that they were reaching the limits of what they could achieve on their own. With Tyrexpo Asia almost doubling in size this year and with clear opportunities in the burgeoning Indian market as well as the
of global tyre-buying economies. The 2013 show highlighted a number of market trends, including a focus on new products from tyre manufacturers targeting the OHT, OTR and TBR sectors in particular; an active retreading market, which is set to grow substantially as India moves towards greater radialisation in truck tyres, and a renewed focus on the Indian market by a number of large Chinese tyre makers.

However, most of the other players attended the show as visitors and if the show continues to grow as a retreading event, surely the likes of Midas, Indag, Cochin, Bremels and Tolins (to mention but a few) will need to attend in the future. Tyrexpo India will return to the Chennai Trade Centre from 7–9 July, 2015 with both halls 1 and 2 having been booked in order to allow for the show’s anticipated expansion.
obvious need to expand the series into other global regions, the company obviously now has the potential to develop the Tyrexpo series from a series of regional shows into a global operation.
The potential was illustrated by the success of Tyrexpo India, which showed a healthy 11 per cent increase in exhibitor and visitor numbers against the first exhibition in 2011.
A major advantage of the show is its international pulling power, which brings important export markets within reach of Indian producers. As proof of this, Tyrexpo India 2013 drew visitors from 67 countries to Chennai, representing the majority

There were three Indian retreaders present respresenting some of the biggest players in the sector, namely Tyresoles, Cio and TVS, whilst Kwik- Patch and Unipatch represented the tyre repair sector. Overseas suppliers were also very much in evidence – Acten, Cima, Kraiburg, Steinbichler and Myers Tire Supply all showed a strong presence. The only area, which was not particularly well represented was local tread rubber suppliers, with only Elgi and Vamshi

Glisen Announce Production Hike
Retreading equipment maker Glisen Equipments Pvt Ltd has moved to new and bigger premises in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. With the bigger space, the company hopes to increase production in the ongoing calendar year. “Our production is likely to be hiked by 15-20 per cent,” said the company’s Managing Director, Sushil Sarcar. “Moving to the new location will also reflect positively on our delivery schedule,” he added. The equipment maker feels that the new and bigger location will help it to handle domestic and
export orders more efficiently.
In addition, Glisen has announced a number of strategic alliances with major tyre producers expanding in the retreading sector such as MRF, Apollo and JK. “With radialisation picking up in India, the retreading industry needs to equip itself to meet the changing requirements of the industry,” said Sarcar. “We are therefore making certain modifications in the machiner y and building the equipment to retread radial tyres.”
