Retreading Business to Help Organise Passenger Retreading Pavillion at Brityrex
Retreading Business is co-operating with ECI International Ltd to help organise a passenger retreading pavillion at the forthcoming Brityrex exhibition, which takes place at Event City in Manchester, UK, between 9-11 October 2012.
At the last Brityrex show in 2010 Retreading Business noticed an upsurge in interest in passenger retreading and was pleased to notice several passenger retreaders with stands including Profil, Nortenha and Marix.
This year Retreading Business is looking to organise a small pavillion consisting of a number of 3 x 3 m exhibition stands, with a view to promoting passenger retreads in the UK market. ECI International, the orginsers of the show are co-operating by offering a special discounted rate for units within
the pavillion. Interested parties

Rain Water Harvesting – Bandag Goes Green
Bandag’s pre-cured tread rubber manufacturing plant at Wacol in Brisbane’s western suburbs has been harvesting rain water for use in the site’s cooling tower since July 2008. This cooling tower is integral to Bandag operations, servicing the site’s mixers, mills and cooling tunnels, representing over 60 per cent of the water consumed by the site.
Following the success of the initial 2 tanks installed in 2008, an additional 3 tanks were installed in 2011 increasing the on-site storage capacity to 185,000 litres.
This capacity coupled with Queensland’s recent bumper rain fall has seen in excess of 3.4 million litres of rain water harvested for use
in the site’s cooling tower in the last 12 months. This rain water has represented 60 per cent of the entire water utilized by the cooling tower in this time period. Building on the success this water saving initiative, Bandag is currently incorporating rain water harvesting capacity to the site’s gas fired boiler. This boiler has been identified as the second most water intensive plant in Bandag’s operations, presenting the potential of further significant reductions in Bandag’s operational town water requirements. These initiatives have been implemented by Bandag’s Engineering Department and Environmental Monitoring and Improvement Team.
Double TWI for Winter Marix Retreads
Marangoni’s retreaded winter tyres, the Ecogrip and Ecotrac of the Marix Ecology series, now have a double TWI (tread wear indicator)" says Brenno Benaglia, sales director of the commercial and earthmover tyres division of Marangoni SpA, as he reminded us of some of the characteristics of the car retreads
that are
manufactured at
Rovereto.
"We have in fact",
continues Benaglia,
"planned a second
TWI indicator for
these products. We
added the second
indicator to help us
identify when a
residual tread of less
than 4 mm is
reached, which
could compromise
the performance and
safety of the vehicle
under winter
conditions and
snow, this is in
addition to the 1.6
mm indicator that is
required by law".
The retreaded Marix
Ecology winter tyres
are suitable for use
even when the
temperature goes under 5-7° C, regardless of the road conditions: dry, wet or covered with snow. The development of the specific
silica-based compounds with advanced characteristics that are able to ensure a better adhesion in low temperatures, even way below zero, is the basis of this Marix Ecology tyre evolution. The Marix Ecology tyres of the Ecogrip and Ecotrac series can be used up to the legal 1.6 mm
limit when the retreads are worn beyond 4 mm, just like normal non winter tyres.
 ABC Reafirms Partnership with Rodocar
Rodocar of Vitória da Conquista in Bahai state, Brazil, has reaffirmed its partnership with retread materials supplier ABC Valadares. Rodocar was already an accredited ABC partner but in 2012 it gained further assistance in branding and technical assistance that emphasised the partnership.
Rodocar retreads drive and trailer truck tyres using ABC treads and manufactures around 500 retreaded tyres per month.
Carlos Antonio, manager of Rodocar in Vitória da Conquista says, “The mileage and value for money from these ABC treads is compatible with
any in the market and we have no complaints about performance.”
The portfolio of patterns and sizes of treads available from ABC Borrochas enables us to take care of all the needs of our customers: From large fleets to independent operators. “ The importance of a partnership cannot be overstated. There is a transparency in the retreading process and a comprehensive range of retreading materials and products is available from a single source at ABC,” says the manager of Rodocar
