Kal Tire Mining Tire Group on show at RWM 2011
OTR Tyres Ltd is now an integral part of the Kal Tire Mining Tire Group – creating the worlds' first 'global' earthmover tyre service company.
Exhibiting at RWM 2011, Kal Tire promoted not just their range of new and retreaded solid, cushion and pneumatic tyres but also the benefits of Tyre Hire, a service exclusively designed for the waste management industry. Kal Tire offers the Waste Management industry 'much more than just tyres'.
Steve Clipperton, Kal Tire's Waste Industry Manager, stated: "We have been working with our customers in the waste industry
for many years, addressing their key problem areas – punctures, downtime and wear rates – which all add up to tyre cost per hour. Our management solutions – no matter what size of organisation – are focused on that key issue." Kal Tire has a unique position in the earthmover tyre marketplace with products, resources and capabilities to provide a comprehensive outsourced tyre service.
Excellent working relationships with all major manufacturers means Kal Tire can supply a wide range of wheels and tyres, which come with the assurance of Kal Tire's full maintenance and
support service. The network of UK service centres are focused on customer requirements - with tyre supply, on site service, repairs plus Fil and solid cushion tyre options available.

Kal Tire is the world's largest earthmover tyre dealer and the investment into OTR has created the world's largest earthmover and mining tyre service company, with operations in North, Central and South America, Europe, Africa and Australia.
Fendering..... a Logical Solution!
The harsh working conditions of earthmover vehicles and tyre damage opportunities that are present has led Kal Tire, to develop their 'fendering' process for tyres.
"The side wall of a tyre is a large exposed area and, at the same time, is the thinnest part of the tyre", said Wayne Cornell, Kal Tire's UK and Africa Manufacturing Manager. "In harsh working environments this area is more susceptible to damage as the sidewall makes contact with objects – so the logical solution has always been
to protect the sidewall i.e. fendering".
The new and improved fendering process, has been enhanced as the company completes its integration with north American parent company Kal Tire. Now - as part of the Kal Tire Mining Tire Group - experience and resources
are shared, globally, for the benefit of customers.
"Without going into too much detail", continued Wayne, "we have gone from the initial manually applied 'slab' process to a totally automated 'strip build' process, allowing for a continuous compound application, with width and depth of rubber to suit vehicle and working environment".
Kal Tire is confident that some elements of their current process are unique. "With results proving so positive, we are now regularly being asked to 'fender' new, first life tyres, especially for the harsher working environments – steelworks, scrap yards, the harsher quarries etc – our fendering process is the logical solution", concluded
Wayne.
In addition to new tyre supply, Kal Tire has regional service
depots throughout the UK, equipped with the largest fleet of specialist fitting trucks and engineers in the country. The retread manufacturing plant at the company's Alfreton HQ houses specialist equipment for retreading and remoulding earthmover tyres and the capacity to retread 57" diameter tyres.
Kal Tire claims to be the world's largest earthmover and mining
tyre service company, with operations in North, Central and South America, Europe, Africa and Australia.
"Fendering" is a process where new or retreaded tyres have their sidewalls thickened by the addition of a layer
of thicker buffer rubber. This is particularly useful in highly abrasive operations
