     TRIB Expands its Board
 Marangoni Adds Williams Tire Service to US Dealer Network
Marangoni Tread North America has continued to expand its successful network of independent dealers in North America by including Williams Tire Service Inc. located in Fullerton, California.
After 40 years of success in the retreading industry, Williams Tire Service Inc. will continue its tradition of retreading excellence by bringing Marangoni's splice-less Ringtread retreading system and the new Unitread precure retreading system to Southern California. Williams Tire Service Inc. will be working with its sister company, Louis Tire, in Long Beach, CA, to sell and service fleets with Ringtread and Unitread throughout the Southern California market. These
locations will offer a full range of solutions to meet all the tyre management needs of both long haul and regional commercial fleets in various industry sectors including construction, sanitation and solid waste.
“I've known of Marangoni for many years; that is why I wanted their superior Ringtread and Unitread products to introduce to the Southern California market. In addition to its high quality and exceptional standards, Marangoni is known for its dedication to the retread industry and all its vendors,” said Lionel Perera, owner and principal of Williams Tire Service Corp.
 TRIB's David Stevens believes that expanding the board will widen TRIB's relationship with its members
1. Bob Majewski, president (Sumerel Tire Service);
2. Eddie Burleson, vice president (Central Marketing Inc.);
3. Phil Boarts, secretary- treasurer (Oliver Rubber Co.);
4. Norm Ball, director (Michelin Retread Technologies Inc.);
5. Mike Berra Jr., director (Community Tire Retreading);
6. Doug Conley, director (Shamrock Marketing Inc.); 7. Garry Heintschel, director (Heintschel Tire & Service);
8. Jay Hofner, director
(Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.);
9. Wayne Jackson, director (International Tire Repair Solutions Inc.);
The Tire Retread and Repair Information Bureau has extended its board by adding three new members. "I think it's a good thing for TRIB," says David Stevens, managing director of the TRIB. "We'll be adding two retreading companies and one tyre repair company, so we'll be strengthening the retreaders' representation on the board," he says. "We've been looking at bringing more voices into our discussions for several months, and the board felt it was a good time to add those voices to the mix."
The 2010-2011 TRIB board of directors currently reads as follows:
10. Roy Littlefield, director (Tire Industry Association);
11. Guy Walenga, director (Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions);
12. Harrison Wexler, director (Free Service Tire Co.).
According to TRIB, the primary role of the board "is to provide strategic guidance, direction and advice for the association and to provide fiduciary oversight to protect the business property of the association."
McCarthy Tire Expands
Wilkes-Barre, West Virginia-based McCarthy Tire Service will acquire Duncan Brothers Tire Co., adding six locations to its growing business. Duncan Brothers Tire operates six retail and commercial service centres, two in Winchester, Va.; and one each in Front Royal, Va.; Culpeper, Va.; Hagerstown, Md., and Martinsburg, W.V.
With the acquisition completed, McCarthy Tire will operate 37 service centres in seven states along with five Bandag retread plants and one off- the-road retread facility.
"Over the last five years, we've been in a growth mode," Mr. McCarthy said. "This opportunity was right. The business climate is good for this
acquisition, and we're taking advantage of it."
McCarthy Tire has about 700 employees and will pick up an additional 60 employees with the acquisition. The business already has a location in Winchester, Va., and Duncan Brothers Tire Co. was its biggest competitor there, Mr. McCarthy said.
"This is going to expand the market that we're already in," Mr. McCarthy said. "When the acquisition is complete, it will bring additional strength to our team and allow us to offer additional services that were not previously available to their customers."
 RTA Plea on Casing Shortage
The retread industry in North America and around the world, is suffering from a severe shortage of retreadable truck tyre casings. Whether or not you retread your tyres or buy retreads, this shortage can have a negative impact on you, whether you have one truck or one thousand. Here’s why, according to Harvey Brodsky of the RTA. Retreads act as a brake on new tyre prices. Whenever there is a shortage of retreads new tyre manufacturers do not have any reason to hold back on raising their prices, and everyone who purchases truck tyres feels the pain in their chequebooks.
If you are sitting on retreadable casings, you should either have them retreaded now, or if you don’t
wish to use retreads, you should sell them since they will bring you a higher price than ever before. Retreaders are hungry for retreadable casings and are willing to pay a premium for popular sizes of truck tyres.
If you contact the RTA they will give you the names of retreaders close to you who are in the market to buy and
we will also
provide you
with
additional
information
regarding the
casing
market.
If you already
use retreads,
you know how much money you are saving and how good the quality is these days. If you haven’t used retreads before or it has been years since you did, you need to know that today’s retreads produced by top quality retreaders are better than ever and enjoy an adjustment rate as low as the best new tyres, and often even lower.
Whether you have casings to sell, or if you want information about where to have your own casings retreaded or where to buy retreads, call the RTA toll free at 888-810- 8861, or send an email to info@retreadtire.org and we’ll contact you. It will be a good contact, both for you and the retread industry.
