One of the oldest Elgi franchisees, Chennai based Vijay Tyres Pvt Ltd, is considering a new site on the upcoming Surat-Mumbai-Chennai highway corridor.
Expansion on the Cards for Elgi Franchisee
The corridor is expected to be completed in the next couple of years, connecting key cities on the way from the West to the Southern part of India.
“There is a plan for the creation of an automobile hub on the sidelines of the new road corridor, which will pave the way for faster road connections in our region. We have plans to put-up a new retread plant on the corridor once it completes,” confirmed Ghanshayamdas Toshniwal, Managing Director, Vijay Tyres Pvt Ltd. The company started retreading back in the 1960s and became an Elgi franchisee in 1984.
Meanwhile, the retreader is also negotiating for new 8-tyre chamber with Elgi. An all-new buffer is also in the pipeline. “We keep on upgrading equipment in the retreading plant every five years, and the new chamber and buffer are in line with the same plan, explained Toshniwal. “Currently, production is down to 1,100 tyres each month, reduced from around 1400 tyres pre-Covid. With market conditions improving, truck movements are also increasing, and we are hoping for 10-15% growth in volumes in this calendar year,” he added. “We are now gearing-up to retread 1200×20 tubeless radials as all new 50 – 60 ton load capacity trucks have OEM fitments of this size. The new 8-tyre chamber will be installed specifically to retread tubeless radial of 1200×20 size tyres for these heavy trucks.”
Vijay Tyres is a part of a diversified group with business spread over four new tyre shops including dealerships for Ceat, Michelin, JK & Apollo, as well as a two-wheeler dealership for Hero and Honda, and four-wheeler dealership for Maruti and Honda.
