Stamford Tyres Expands Retreading Operations Amid Market Shifts

Stamford Tyres made a strong impression at TyreXpo Asia 2025, with a prime booth location and a busier-than-expected turnout. Chief Executive Officer Conson Sia reflected on the success of the event, noting that traffic had been particularly high compared to the previous edition in Bangkok. With a well-attended stand and better-than-anticipated sales, the company saw encouraging momentum for its latest offerings.

Strengthening Domestic Operations and Retreading Expansion

This year, Stamford Tyres showcased the Firenza line, its new passenger car tyre, alongside an expanded range of batteries. While Stamford Tyres remains the company’s flagship brand, these products were the main highlights of its display. The company operates in nine countries through its distributor network, selling both domestically and for export.

As Stamford Tyres navigates a transitional period following the passing of its founder, the company is focusing on its next growth phase—particularly in Singapore. With the Singaporean government encouraging local purchasing and implementing restrictions on import quotas, Stamford Tyres sees an opportunity to align with these policies by establishing a new retreading plant. The initiative aims to extend the lifespan of tyre casings while supporting sustainability efforts in the region.

Retreading is not currently a major segment for Stamford Tyres, but Sia emphasised its importance in fleet management services. Offering a complete package—including new tyres and second-life solutions—requires an in-house retreading facility, allowing the company to provide a full-service solution for its clients.

Meeting Market Demand Amid Supply Constraints

Demand for retreading has increased recently, particularly in Indonesia, where restrictions on tyre imports have made availability more challenging. Recognising this shift, Stamford Tyres is expanding its market presence in Indonesia, which stands out as many companies typically expand outward rather than into Indonesia. With two major Chinese manufacturers recently setting up operations in the country, tyre supply has grown, creating an opportunity for retreading services to complement new tyre sales.

The company already operates a retreading plant in Timika, Papua, focused on earthmover tyres. The new facility will broaden Stamford Tyres’ capabilities, covering both truck and earthmover tyres, to better support its growing customer base.

As the industry adapts to shifting regulations and sustainability demands, Stamford Tyres’ expansion into retreading positions it to offer a more comprehensive service to its clients while reinforcing its commitment to long-term growth in the region.
