Günzburg, Germany based retreader company Rigdon has announced that it is to receive government funding to the tune of 2.4 million Euros for the construction of a new passenger tyre retreading plant with an annual capacity of 300,000 tyres.
Boost for German Retreading Industry
The project is being funded by the environmental innovation programme of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). Bundestag member Ekin Deligöz (Alliance 90/The Greens) commented: “I am very pleased about the BMUV’s funding of this pioneering project. The fully automated retreading of car tyres makes an important contribution to conserving resources and protecting the environment. This project shows how innovation in business and environmental protection can go hand in hand.”
The BMUV’s environmental innovation programme aims to support innovative and environmentally friendly projects that contribute to sustainable development.
Deligöz emphasised the importance of such funding: “This project is an excellent example of how we can strengthen the regional economy through targeted investments in environmentally friendly technologies and at the same time have a positive impact on the environment. I am convinced that Rigdon GmbH will make a valuable contribution to sustainability with its innovative technology.”
Bundestag member Alexander Engelhard (CDU/CSU parliamentary group) also emphasised: “The innovative upcycling of used tyres by Rigdon from Günzburg is a great example of the entrepreneurial spirit in our region with supra-regional appeal. As a member of the Bundestag’s Environment Committee, I am pleased with the Rigdon team’s success in stimulating economic growth while at the same time more than halving the use of resources compared to new tyres. It shows that economy and ecology don’t have to be opposites.”
