We are very sad to announce that Mike Scanlon, the retired editor and publisher of the UK industry magazine Tyre Trade News passed away in his sleep yesterday morning 18 January.
Mike Scanlon Has Passed Away – Tyre Trade News
Mike was a larger-than-life figure in the tyre publishing sphere and always approached his worked with a boundless energy and enthusiasm. His greatest strengths were a very clear understanding of his magazine’s position in the market, and a strong commitment to serving his customers. If there was ever a press event to be attended, you would always see Mike there, and it was this devotion to his clients, which has been the base for the strong sense of customer loyalty enjoyed by Tyre Trade News to this day.
In recent years health problems curtailed Mike’s ability to be as involved in the market as he would have liked, and the industry was a less colourful place for his absence.
At Retreading Business we have always had a very close connection with Mike, as our publisher David Wilson worked closely with him and his wife, Mary, as editor of Tyre Trade News between 1993 and 1996, helping to establish the magazine within the UK tyre sector.
Mike was also a shareholder in the European Retreading Review, which was published in 1994 and 1995, and was the forerunner of Retreading Business magazine.
Our deepest sympathies go to Mary, Jane, and the rest of the Scanlon family as well as to Mike’s friends and colleagues.
