LEADERSHIP, INNOVATIONS, AND EXPANSION Don Julio’s contribution to the tyre industry extends beyond his family business. His engagement with the Federación Argentina del Neumático (FAN), alongside his uncle, marked the beginning of his influence on a larger scale. FAN served as a pivotal institu- tion for the tyre industry. Before FAN’s establishment, the Unión Comerciantes en Neu- máticos (UCON) was founded in 1942, followed by the Asoci- ación de Reconstructores Argentinos de Neumáticos (ARAN) in 2009, and the Instituto de Capacitación del Neumático (INCA- NEU) in 2015. Don Julio’s leadership within these associations, dating back to the 1980s, underscored his commitment to the industry’s advancement. A milestone achievement in Don Julio’s career was the forma- tion of the Asociación Latinoamericana del Segmento de Refor- ma de Neumáticos (ALARNEU) in 2014, in São Paulo, Brazil. His appointment as the first Executive President of ALARNEU highlighted his impact on the retreading industry across Latin America. THE ARGENTINE TYRE INDUSTRY: CHALLENGES AND GROWTH Despite economic obstacles that have tempered growth expec- tations, the Argentine tyre industry has continued to grow. The sector has seen investment in technology, qualified people, and quality certifications, driving its progress. The industry is certainly undergoing a consolidation phase, emphasising the adoption of modern technology, continuous training through INCANEU, and implementing environmental- ly friendly practices. A significant development anticipated in 2024 is the introduction of “Quality Certification” for industry plants and products, extending to local suppliers. This initiative reflects a collective commitment to enhancing quality stand- ards and sustainability. VISION FOR ALARNEU AND THE FUTURE Don Julio Larocca envisions ALARNEU playing a critical role in shaping the future of the retreading industry in Latin America. His vision encompasses dedication to environmental conserva- tion, quality interactions with suppliers, and a harmonious rela- tionship with socioeconomic and natural resources, promoting standard goods and sustainable industry practices.
