treading and recycling industry, to encourage engagement in the awards process, and to provide a balanced selection of awards that recognise excellence across the whole of the industry.
“We are always looking to try new things to garner interest in the event, and for that reason, this year we have decided that the four additional categories will be judged solely by the 14-strong Nominations Committee, which consists of inde- pendent industry experts, primarily industry journalists and trade association professionals, rather than being open to the public vote. The main thinking behind this is that although we recognise the benefit of having an awards programme which encourages the fantastic levels of engagement we have seen from the market – from customers suppliers, employees and friends of our nominees, there are certain awards, particular- ly those based on the evaluation of innovations and business achievements, which require a higher level of input from in- dustry experts in order to optimise their credibility. It also allows us to recognise some people from within the industry who are perhaps not as well known as others, but who also deserve industry recognition for their achievements.”
SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES TO BE RECOGNISED
The organisers of the Recircle Awards are being tight-lipped about the exact nature of the four remaining awards and the identity of the nominees. “You will need to tune into to our Nominations Video for that,” says Wilson. However, two of the awards will be repeats of categories which have been particularly popular in the past due to their ability to reward the achievements of small and medium sized businesses. The other two awards will recognise the historical achievements of key players in the tyre retreading and tyre recycling indus- tries. The exact nature of these awards will be revealed du- ring the virtual awards event.
