LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD IN THE TYRE RETREADING SECTOR
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD IN THE TYRE RECYCLING SECTOR
Marvin Bozarth
Perhaps the most prestigious of the Recircle Awards are the two individual awards bes- towed for a lifetime of achievement in the two key industry sectors covered by the awards, namely tyre retreading and tyre recycling. The recipients of these awards are chosen by a select voting committee led by the respective editors of Retreading Business and Tyre & Ru- bber Recycling after consultation with mem- bers of the Nominations Committee.
The winner of this year’s Lifetime Achieve- ment Award in the Tyre Retreading Sector was Marvin Bozarth, who was the face of the US retreading industry during the 1990s, when he was Executive Director of the International Tire and Rubber Association, the precursor of the Tire Industry Association (TIA).
career at Purcell Tire & Rubber Company, la- tterly as Vice President Manufacturing befo- re moving onto is role at ITRA, a position he remained active as a tyre industry consultant. Marvin’s contribution to the retreading in- dustry around the world is not in doubt. A lar- he is, and this award is richly deserved.
Unfortunately, Bozarth was not able to recei- ve his award personally due to health reasons, but current TIA CEO, Dick Gust had the fo- llowing to say about him:
“There is no-one in the industry more knowle- dgeable about retread tyres than Marvin Bo- zarth. Marvin throughout his career was a mentor to many people in the industry. Becau- se of Marvin’s leadership, he gave us all some- thing that we could remember throughout our lifetime.”
The winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award for the tyre recycling sector was Gio- vanni Corbetta, the recently retired CEO of Ecopneus, who was present at the award ceremony in Bologna to receive his award. Corbetta was the director of Ecopneus when the Italian EPR scheme was formed, and he worked closely with the Italian Government throughout his tenure as CEO to help formu- late tyre recycling legislation in Italy.
During the Virtual Award Ceremony, on April 25 Corbetta’s successor as General Manager commented:
“Giovanni dedicated his endless passion in caring about every single detail in the organi- sation and he spent the last ten years of Ecop- neus existence reinforcing and securing the company role as a primary player in the Italian recycling industry. With the support of a very nicely selected group of people, Ecopneus’ reputation among the stakeholders grew up to the point of today and became recognised as an inspiring model among the consortium institution.”
