At least that is the message being promoted by the organisers of the plethora of tyre industry related events that are scheduled for the second half of May. Apart from the much-publicised stand-off be- tween the organisers of the Tire Cologne and Autopromotec, tho- se of us who are active in the tyre retreading and recycling sectors have been presented with a bewildering array of events to choose from, with the Tire Technology Expo, the BIR World Recycling Con- vention, the ETRA Conference and IFAT all taking place within the same three-week period. Of course, if like us, you are based in the UK and have an interest in truck tyres, you also have the Commer- cial Vehicle Show to consider.
Covid-19 pandemic. Whereas previously businesspeople did not think twice about jumping into a car or onto an aeroplane for mee- ting, nowadays they are questioning whether the trip is really ne- cessary, whether the same goals cannot be met quicker and more trade shows moving forward of course. There clearly is a need more suppliers to meet customers in a face-to-face environment. None- theless, there is no doubt that the job of exhibition organisers has got tougher since the beginning of 2020.
So, quite why all these show organisers thought it was a good idea to shoehorn these events into such a short space of time is some- thing that may never become clear. However, rather than complain, let us look on the positive side. Let us assume that the tyre indus- to keep both organisers happy, that the Italians will visit Germany and the Germans will reciprocate. Let us believe that the Chinese will be allowed to travel in order to make these events viable, that those who have been reluctant to travel because of Covid, decide that the time is now right to get back to normal and that those who have been forced to spread their resources between two or more
Bus most of all, let us be grateful that we, once again, have some shows to go to.
