public transport and tourist sectors.”
The venture was planned for last year, but the long lockdown to curb the spread of the Covid19 virus in 2020 forced the owner to postpone it until this year. “The production is planned to commence in first week of September,” said Hateet.
On what inspired him to foray into a new retread venture at this juncture, Hateet added, “Fleet owners’ revenue has drastically reduced due to the long lockdown, and it
Despite the lull in the Indian market due to the prolonged lockdown, new retread sites continue to open up, creating a sense of hope in the domestic landscape. Typical of this is a new retread site planned for the outskirts of Jammu in Northern India. Jammu is the winter capital of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

factor y about 100 km from Jammu in Siot Village falls in Rajouri District,” informed the young entrepreneur Hateet Sethi of Hateet Tyre Retreading. “The site is planned to cater to an area 50 km East and 50 km West of the village, mainly servicing the tippers engaged in the sand mining, brick kiln and stone crushing businesses as well as LCV (Light Commercial Vehicles) units deployed in the
will take a while before their financial condition improves. We strongly believe that retread volumes will improve, as fleet owners have no money to buy new tyres and prefer retread tyres.”
The site is strategically located on the highway that goes towards Jammu, dotted with sand mines. “An estimated 1,000 tippers are operational in this hilly region, and we are targeting to service them thru this retread plant,” he said. The 400-tyre capacity factory would operate with an initial target of 300 tyres each month of mainly 1000/20 and smaller LCV tyres. “We also own 20 tippers, and so the plant will retread tyres for both our in- house vehicles as well as for the open market.”
The new site will be installed with a 5-tyre autoclave, buffer, inspection spreader, skiving station and envelope expander supplied by the Coimbatore based retread machinery brand Glisten Equipment.
“It is going to be the first modern plant in the area as only a few small retread outlets are functional locally with basic machinery like steam bonders.” In terms of which tread rubber brand will be used, Hateet informed, “We have decided to go with Elgi Tread. It is an established brand, and it has agreed not to offer its tread to any other retreader in the Jammu & Kashmir market.”
