       RECIRCLE AWARDS 2021
Recircle Awards Concludes Successful Inaugural Event
The first annual Recircle Awards event concluded on March 15 this year with a successful virtual awards ceremony viewed widely on Youtube and Facebook by the tyre retreading and recycling industries on a global basis. We spoke to David Wilson, the Managing Director of organisers Valebridge Media Services about the event, and his hopes and plans for expanding the Recircle Awards in 2022.
What inspired you to establish the Recircle Awards?
Our aim was to create an event which recognises the sustainable role that the tyre industry can and must play in the 21st century transport sector and
sometimes undervalued tyre retreading industry and the burgeoning tyre recycling sector.
How satisfied have you been with the results of the inaugural awards?
Extremely satisfied. We were naturally very delighted with the engagement of the public in casting over 9,000 votes across the various categories, as well as the traction and awareness that we have created for the event globally.
We were particularly pleased to note that the twenty award winners hail from five different continents, thereby emphasising and validating the global nature of the Recircle Awards. The
integrity of the event.
With regards to the public voting, we implemented a robust system to identify and discount duplicate votes as well as any evidence of deliberate voter fraud, and readers can rest assured that any category where the vote was close was analysed very closely indeed.
To be honest, we didn’t find much evidence of the above, but where we did, those votes were discounted by our Voting Committee. We take the integrity of the Awards very seriously.
What can you tell us about your Partner/Collaborator concept?
Well, first of all I’d like to thank all of our sponsors, partners and
to show their support for the concept of the awards and the positive promotion the awards bring to the industry as a whole. Of course, we also provide some promotional benefits in terms of advertising, video and social media coverage etc.
We have, however, made it clear from the start that being a partner/collaborator does not guarantee an award. That is down to how individual companies manage to mobilise their customers and suppliers to vote for them. As you will see from the results, some partner/collaborators won awards, but some did not. However, I think everybody involved understood and respected that approach.
We will be introducing our new packages for the 2022 Recircle Awards shortly.
Finally, what changes can we expect to see for the 2022 event?
We are currently consulting with our colleagues, partners and collaborators with regards to identifying areas in which we can optimise the Recircle Awards in the future, and we will be making decisions on certain ideas in advance of the launch of the second edition over the course of the next couple of months.
Generally speaking, though, we expect the format of the event to be fairly similar to what we did this year, although we do hope that we will be able to present some, if not all the awards, in person at one or more of the industry events taking place next year. Of course, this will be dependent on where we stand with Covid at that particular point in time.
With regards to the award categories, we expect the total number of categories to remain the same, although we do intend to freshen up the event with a small number of new categories. We also intend to increase the size of the Nominations Committee to fifteen, in order to make the Committee more representative geographically.
reflects the concept of continuous renewal. As the publisher of Retreading Business and Tyre & Rubber Recycling, we recognised the opportunity to create a truly global event that could raise the profile of both sectors by celebrating excellence across both industries. The Recircle Awards aims to be a key global event for the tyre sector in terms of sustainable innovation, production processes, management and services, and will provide well-earned and valuable recognition for the contribution of key players in the
excellence of all our award nominees has helped illustrate the vital and significant way in which the tyre retreading and recycling industries contribute towards the Circular Economy.
What have you done to assure the impartiality and integrity of the voting system?
Firstly, our Nominations Committee plays a key role in analysing the credentials of all the nominations we receive, and we believe the role they played made a major contribution to the
collaborators for their support in helping us make the Recircle Awards 2021 a success.
When we designed the awards, we thought long and hard about whether companies who could potentially win an award should also be able to purchase partner/collaborator packages, and we were careful to create packages which we felt maintained the integrity of the event.
The primary aim of the partner/collaboration packages is actually to offer an opportunity for companies within the sector
