       EAST AFRICA
Glisen to Focus on African Market
Indian retreading machinery manufacturers are increasingly focusing on Africa, as the acceptability of their machinery remains high due to the retread industry being largely
further in the African market. “We commissioned a site in the Ethiopian Capital Addis Ababa about a month ago. It’s a modern facility and can retread in between 1,000 to 1,500 tyre
show held in Chennai.
With the Glisen supplied site operational, the North East African country has now four retread facilities. It is early times for retreading in Ethiopia and awareness about the new concept is surging among local transporters.
Commenting on the Ethiopian market, Sarcar explained, “The four sites have cumulative production of 3 - 4,000 retreads each month, and this is likely to increase, thereby evolving into a more interesting market in the future.”
Glisen has installed machinery at an MRF franchisee in Ethiopia, while the remaining three players include a site that operates on Elgi equipment
and tread, and two others from Marangoni and Bandag.
The machinery producer says it will soon have an additional new associate in another West African country, which it says is likely to be operational by the middle of 2020. In addition, Egypt is also under the
company’s scanner, as this is regarded as one of the largest tyre markets in Africa.
Turning towards home turf, Sarcar says the company will continue to strengthen its relationship with major tyre producers, having a presence on the retreading side with the likes of Apollo, JK, MRF, Michelin etc. “We continue to strengthen our relations with tyre companies to cater to the requirements of their retreading clientele. We anticipate growth in our business with the tyre companies in the near future,” he said.
