Fortunately for Gaderey SA, the company’s foresight in developing a diversified range of products and services, has allowed it to flourish.
Before 2012 Gaderey SA only made retreads. Now however, in addition to offering both COC

Rolcon – Retreads Vital for Optimising Cost of Transport
Montevideo based retreader Rolcon has been active in the retreading market since 2004, and with monthly production in the region of 650 to 700 units, the company can claim to be a medium-sized player. Indeed, Rolcon’s range of truck and bus retreads, mostly
manufactured using Galgo tread rubber, make a significant contribution to the company’s product range.
Nonetheless Rolcon’s
Luis Ghiringelli is first
to admit that the
company’s main interest
is in the tyre import
business, where Rolcon
can claim to be the
largest importer of both
car and truck tyres
originating from outside
the Mercosur area. Key
brands imported by
Rolcon include
Vredestein, Westlake,
Kumho and BKT.
Despite this frank
admission, Ghiringelli is keen to point out that Rolcon takes its role in the retreading market seriously.
“We are trying to do the best with our retreads,” he says. “With good casings, retreading is very important for optimising the costs of transport. On long
distance transport we
are achieving three or
four retreads with good European or Mercosur
casings. With that in
mind, the future of
retreading lies in doing
a better job, and in
reducing the overall
cost of transportation.” According to
Ghiringelli, Rolcon was
also impacted by the
decline in the
Uruguayan retread
market in 2015, and is currently making 25 per
cent fewer tyres than it
was two years ago,
largely because of the impact of the prices of Chinese new tyres. However, he points out that they do retread some Chinese tyres and emphasises the fact
that their own Westlake brand is very good.
70 per cent of Rolcon’s production is on a COC basis but they also import casings from Japan. Rolcon supplies retreads to the whole country, although the majority of

There is a full-service workshop servicing local truck fleets and large bus companies such as the Turil coach company, offering all aspects of maintenance work other than engine servicing. The company also assembles box vans and operates a sales facility for the Brazilian trailer manufacturer, Facchini.
Of particular importance, though, has been the company’s expansion into new tyre sales, which began in 2012. Says Corbi, pictured here with Sales Manager Andres Stabile, “We
products and services have allowed us to supply our clients with a more comprehensive product offering.”
The Recopuma retread plant incorporates two autoclaves and is connected directly to Tipler for remote management of the production process. The company also claims market leadership in Uruguay with 26 per cent of the market in terms of kilos of rubber imported.

services to local fleets, and we regularly monitor the mileage of our customers’ tyres in order to show the best cost per kilometre,” says Ghiringelli.
