geographical location of the retreading plant.
“Aktau was a dead end with poor logistics and very limited demand for retreaded tyres. Given this, the owner was ready to sell the plant and I was ready to buy it, together with all the remaining raw materials. In March 2017 the plant was transported to Almaty. We spent two months installing the
equipment, collected our first casings and passed through
initial training, and by May 2017 we became operational,” Kaziev said.
Almaty is a big city with developed logistics and the growing transport levels passing through the city expands opportunities for the retreading businesses, according to Kaziev.
“In recent years,
Kazakhstan has been
running numerous
transport projects. For
example, they include the through passage between Western China - Western Europe, plus the establishment of the new dry sea port in the Almaty Oblast. These projects contributed to the rise in the number of trucks on our roads, hence boosting the demand for our
services,” Kaziev said.
At the very beginning the company was producing less than now, and the quality was also not perfect, according to Kaziev. However, these problems were successfully solved quickly, thanks to the help of the former owner and with the assistance of Russian colleagues.

same mileage as the new ones. He also told me that the plant, with equipment from the Chinese supplier Sooner, originally had been purchased in Shanghai. When the equipment was supplied, the group of experts from China also came to teach the workers”.
Despite the first impressions, it turned out that the things were not going great for that plant. When Chinese consultants left, the management of the plant started facing some acute problems with the production process.
“At that time, they had a huge number of poor-quality tyres arising out of the autoclave and a lot of
expensive raw materials had been wasted. And, of course, there were not a lot of casings of the required quality. On the other hand, customers didn’t want to purchase the retreaded tyres, since they simply didn’t believe that such kind of things could have good quality,” Kaziev recalled.
In a bid to improve quality, the owner of the facility visited several similar plants in Russia. Gaining some experience from his Russian colleagues, he eventually succeeded and managed to drastically improve quality and cut losses during the production process. However, there still were some challenges that it was impossible to overcome. One of them was associated with the poor
year and so far cannot describe our company as an experienced retreader. We have a long way ahead and we are ready to learn,” Kaziev stressed. Today Green Tyre is retreading on average from 150 to 180 tyres per month, working with sizes from R17.5 to R22.5. In Kazakhstan the retreading business has a strong seasonal fluctuation, as in particular, from January to March there are virtually no orders for tyre retreading
