     TREADS
Good Results for Vipal in Comparative Tests
Vipal has just released the results of several comparative tests carried out on European roads, which demonstrate the superiority of the company’s truck and bus treads.
“We have been doing tests with retreading customers for years,
but, in the last three years, we have also intensified testing on fleets and the results of that work are showing up. We can demonstrate and prove not only the quality of our product, but also the retreading benefits for the fleets that previously did not
retread tyres in the proportion that is observed today. This is very important for Vipal Rubber and for the industry”, emphasised Vipal’s Commercial Coordinator in Europe, Fabrício Nedeff.
According to Vipal, the first test, carried out on a route in the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain, using a Scania R440 - 6x2
truck – showed better results with the company’s VRT3 tread, when compared to Tier 1 new tyres. The yield was 52 per cent higher with the Vipal tread, covering 112,710 kilometres with the VRT3, while the new tyre registered 74,300 kilometres. In the same comparison, the tyre retreaded with the Vipal product covered 5,525 kilometres per millimetre of tread, while the new tyre traveled 3,555 kilometres per millimetre, a difference of 55 per cent.
Meanwhile, Vipal’s VL150A tread, in a separate comparative test performed in Germany, obtained a superior performance than a leading competitor’s tread. The Vipal tread, which is also suitable for the highway freight transportation sector and is designed for trailer axles, was applied on the tyres of a Kogel 3- axle single-axle semi-trailer and traveled on German highways with high maneuverability requirements, facing a cold climate classified as a very high severity level. In the test, the VL150A covered 187,178 kilometres, being used onn the trailing axle. The competitor’s tread recorded 139,339 kilometres, a 34 per cent higher advantage for Vipal. In terms of wear, the VL150A ran 15,095 kilometres per millimetre, against 11,237 kilometres per millimetre, compared to the competitor’s tread, a difference of 34 per cent in favour of Vipal. Vipal also carried out a number
of tests in the bus sector, with the DV-UM3 tread was mounted on three urban bus models: a Scania N230 4x2, an articulated MAN NG323F 6x2 and a Volvo B270F 4x2. In each comparative test performed, the DV-UM3 tread demonstrated excellent results.
The tests conducted in an urban setting with the Volvo B270F showed a 117 per cent advantage for Vipal when compared to the market’s main competitor in km/mm, with 11,294 km/mm covered when using DV-UM3 and 5,195 km/mm for the other brand. In terms of projected kilometres, Vipal’s tread was 132% higher, registering 185,222 km against 80,003 by its competitor.
On the Scania N230 urban bus, DV-UM3 also had excellent results: the km/mm obtained was 12,942 against 9,677 by its competitor brand, a 34 per cent higher performance. In terms of projected kilometres, Vipal registered 212,249 km against 153,864 km by its competitor, 38 per cent higher in comparison. There was also a test on the MAN NG323F articulated urban bus that showed an advantage for Vipal of 6 per cent: 3,220 km/mm from Vipal against 3,049 km/mm from its competitor, and 52,808 km from Vipal against 50,003 km from its competitor in the planned kilometre category. Another Vipal tread submitted to tests in Spanish urban buses was the VU100, designed for urban applications and passenger transportation, featuring good traction power and abrasion resistance. In comparison to the competitor brand, both mounted on the tyres of the MAN NL283F bus, Vipal took the lead both in the km/mm and projected km categories, being 12% higher in both tests.
Vipal’s performance evaluations seek to compare similar products, applied in their intended segments and submitted to use in equal conditions, ensuring impartiality in the results obtained. For this to be possible, the tests follow strict standards stipulated by Vipal’s Methodology on Performance Evaluation.
