Galgo Recognised as a Socially Responsible Enterprise for 6th Consecutive Year
and it is great to be able to show it off in the best possible light here at Caledonian. The products really are fantastic, so it was vitally important to us to boast a headquarters that matched the quality of the tyres themselves.
“We feel that this £250,000 investment is a fitting commentary on the state of the market too.” Bridgestone’s Bandag franchise manager Graham Hooper said: “We
are really excited on behalf of Robert and his team at Caledonian. Scotland represents a good growth opportunity for us all. It is a large territory and home to some of the UK’s most prestigious fleets. These fleets recognise the excellent performance and environmental value offered by Bandag and if the product continues to perform, then they will keep coming back to Bandag.”
For the sixth consecutive year, Galgo has earned the distinction of being an ESR - “Socially Responsible Enterprise”. This
award is given by
the Mexican Centre
for Philanthropy
(Cemefi) and the
Alliance for
Corporate Social
Responsibly
(AliaRSE).
Galgo’s vision and
ongoing commitment
to operate as a
socially and
environmentally
responsible company
is seen through their
achievement of
corporate goals such as
the development and
production of several
SmartWay certified
products, which
help reduce
greenhouse gas
emissions.
Furthermore, Galgo’s dedication to maintaining a strong focus on environmentally friendly manufacturing practices and
integration of the highest level of environmental protection standards led to the development of their
cogeneration power plant, designed to supply energy for their manufacturing needs. In addition, Galgo continues to work for the greater good of the
community by actively participating in programmes such as the industry’s Ethics and Values in the Industry awards Programme and
the reforestation of Hidalgo’s Atitalaquia area. It is through actions such as these, that Galgo is able to make a positive impact and help to
improve the quality of life of those around them and it is this
ongoing commitment to offer high quality,
innovative, environmentally friendly products and services, that has helped Galgo maintain their status as an ESR since 2012.
Global OTR Prices Down
The over production and the resulting lower prices has led to the fact that new OTR-tyres are almost the same price as the retreaded options.
Ten years ago, the global shortage of OTR tyres led a boost in OTR retreading. Since then, the global recession has reduced demand for tyres, and several new factories have increased their production volumes. The end result of this is that now many new tyres are offered at historically low prices. "Unfortunately, retreaders have suffered from current trends, as it is sometimes cheaper to buy new tyres than to retread old tyres, especially in the smaller sizes," said
Gary Pompo, maintenance manager for BKT. "At the same time, in the segment of large tyres, there can still be economic benefit."
One of the problems facing manufacturers of retreaded tyres is that about 75 per cent of tyres in the construction industry are destroyed, rather than gradually worn out. "It's very important to use the entire carcass resource, since it accounts for 80 per cent of the cost of the entire tyre," says Jamie Fish, marketing director for OTR-Michelin in North America. "We recommend that you carefully monitor the condition of the casings so that they are optimally suited for subsequent recovery."

Bandag’s Scottish
Dealer Caledonian Invests in Refurbishment
One of Bandag’s largest franchise partners in Europe has underlined the strength of the commercial retread tyre market with the grand unveiling a £250,000 refurbishment in Scotland. Caledonian Tyres, based in Paisley, has put the finishing touches to an extensive refurbishment to position
itself as one of the most advanced retread tyre centres in the country, featuring improved factory facilities, new look offices, improved equipment and an eye-catching rebrand of the entire premises.

During a recent meeting held at Rovereto, Marangoni Group CEO Dino Maggioni presented special certificates to four “long-standing” employees of the company: Roberto Santorum and Mike Carter, who have been with Marangoni for 40 years; Luciano Meta, for 30 years and Christian Asmuth, for 25 years. On the occasion, the group also held a formal dinner to mark the retirement of Giuseppe Ferrari, who, at the beginning of the year, stepped down in favour of Christoph Frost to manage Indirect Retreading EMEA. During these two days, two important appointments were also announced:
Gianluca Merlo, besides managing the plant at Rovereto, takes on the responsibility of Operations Italia, thus also managing the plant in Ferentino. Human Resources of the entire Group will from now on be managed by Michele Bergese.
“On the one hand, this Group is lucky to be able to count on the vast experience and professionalism of people who have spent their working life with Marangoni, and on the other, to leverage the enthusiasm and freshness of new generations of managers to build Marangoni for the future,” commented Dino Maggioni.
