almost 15 years of experience in the retreading sector.
“We observed that retreaders are either investing huge capital in quality plant equipment or otherwise are purchasing low cost machinery. Our objective is to provide quality machinery in the best price,” stressed Ileri, who operates from the company’s Istanbul office.
Retread plants in Turkey are thriving due to the protection extended by the government against the imports of low price tyres from certain Asian markets. As per industry estimates, Turkey has about 250 retread plants but interestingly, most of the equipment is supplied by either 3-4 domestic players or ancillary equipment through imports largely from Italy at a premium price level. Therefore, there is considerable scope for equipment makers to enter the market to provide quality machinery at an affordable price point. “Out of the 250 retread plants, merely 15 are big and the rest are medium and small units. The idea is to upgrade the remaining 235 retreaders, which provides us with a huge business opportunity to grow,” said Ileri
The Turkish Government has
announced a support programme called KOSGEB, which is organised under the Ministry of Science, Industry & Technology to refund a certain amount for upgrading the plant machinery of small and medium enterprises. The programme has won considerable interest from retreaders keen to upgrade or buy new plant machinery. The government refunds a maximum of Euro 36,000 depending on the investment and size of the project. “We have received lots of enquiries after the announcement made by the government, and it is hoped that the move will increase activity on the equipment side,” said Ileri.
The process of upgrading the Turkish retreading industry also demands the availability of trained manpower. “We also have plans to build a training centre, where companies could send their staff to get trained or be updated with the latest machinery or product trends,” said Ileri.
